Hello from the Wirral

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum so I thought I would come and say hello.

I'm currently driving a 2010 Ford focus ST but come September I will be looking to change to a new MKIII Octavia VRS.

Hopefully the forum will provide me with plenty of info in the lead up to ordering my new car.

Many thanks

Kris

Hello Kris  :hi:

What's made you decide to change from an ST?

Hi Gaz,

Couple of reasons I want to change really.

Come September I would of had the ST for 4 years so feel it is time for a change.

Also our little boy is growing up a bit now (he's now 14 months) so although the ST has been fine as a family car so far. I think I would like something a little bit bigger and more grown up. Dont get me wrong I have found the ST to be a fantastic sporty drivers car and I still love it to bits and i'll be sad to see it go. Sometimes you just need to have a change.

My criteria for a new car were:

A sporty, drivers car. with good performance.

It needed to be sensible 4 door, suitable for a family.

It needed to have better fuel economy, cheaper tax and cheaper insurance than the ST (To get the wifes approval)

Needs to look good and needs to be a nice comfortable place to be sat while driving.

I looked at a few cars:

The New ST (dont like the interior and the car seems a little imature to me).

The new Mk7 Golf GTI (to small and expensive) lovely car though.

The BMW 328I Sports touring (far to expensive) again lovely car.

But the winner was.

The MKIII Octavia VRS hatchback.

This on paper wins hands down. It ticks all the boxes, it looks great plenty of performace and it looks like it will be lots cheaper to run than the ST.

Don't get me wrong i've not test driven one yet, but so far I havent found much I dont like. Not sure if I would like to have the DSG gear box it really does appeal to me, guess I will just have to drive the manual and DSG back to back and see which I prefer.

Cheers

Kris.
