Exciting topic: Wheel bolt help!

Featured Replies

I'm going to be getting some Audi alloys (that will hopefully fit) and want to make sure I use the right bolts.

(This thread was going to be more childish before I twigged they were bolts not nuts. Shame.)

Anyway - any recommendations on what I need would be very welcome.

Thank you.

Another VAG wheel. Bolts should fit fine. Are you using spacers or anything?

Just need to hope they are 5 x 100 and not 5 x 112 as some of the newer vag stuff is.

Thanks.

Deffo 5x100 34 offset. 7j

Not planning on spacers - will I need them do you think?

I've got steels at the moment - so would I need some sort of collared bolts to not damage the wheels, do you think, please?

No spacers will be needed on those, as they are 7 inches wide and the offset is lower than a VRS alloy so they will sit slightly further out in the arch :)

Ref bolts, most steel wheels use different bolts compared to alloys, as steel wheels are generally thinner material than alloys.

but I'm not sure on VAG's if this is the case.

you also need to know which 'seat' type you need, VRS alloys are conical seat, majority of aftermarket alloys are taper seat.

Do a google search on your alloys and you should find out the seat type required, and also the bolt length.

Lovely Wheel.

Wheels spacers depend on how you want  your car to look. As above, they are 7j wide and a lower offset than a normal wheel.

Are you buying from that site? or is that just for reference?

Only reason I mentioned spacers was just incase you are - that means you'll need longer bolts. I've seen far to many people make the mistake of buying the spacers then using the standard wheels bolts which is dangerous.

If you look in your link above there are bolts listed below, click on the camera by the side of description and it shows they are a conical seat bolt ;)

Same as VRS ones. :)

Robbbbie!!: Cheers. Not buying from that site. Got a used set.

DanHam: Thanks for mentioning that. I would definitely take your advice!

Coskev: awesome Thank you. Do you know where I could buy a set reasonably priced please?

Excellent. Nice one. Thanks for your help. Will order a set.

Alloys - get a torque wrench, even a cheapo. i did mine tight ,and that is tight, went for a run and found they were loose. Get out the cheapo torque wrench ,set them up and 1000's of miles all is well .

OH- and when you let jughead at the local tyre place torque them up, make sure he does it at the right torque- I've had a place tell me that mine is 120LB/FT, when it should be 120 NM.

If you want to be a perfectionist, you will find that current Audis tend to have special bolts with captive free running conical "washers" to cut down the possibility of wheel damage to the absolute minimum.

Thanks to both. Did wonder if such a bolt existed with a washer built in.

Can't seem to find these anywhere. Well apart from one supplier on eBay. Do you know anywhere that does these washered bolts please?

I don't know where, except Audi dealer you would get them, but I'd be amazed if copies were not been sold on ebay, or a scrappy!
