First proper clean and a bit of advice please!

Featured Replies

Morning folks,

Yesterday was my first day off since collecting the car and the sun was out so it was cleaning time!

the car got a quick wash the day I collected it as I'd asked the dealer not to touch it and it was a bit dusty. The rear bumper was also covered, literally, in rust spots so that got clayed too!

Anyway, fast forward to yesterday and the car got it's proper first clean.

Washed then Bilt Hamber Korrosol liberally applied over the car and I have to say I was surprised how much stuff reacted with it! The car then got clayed, again with some surprising results on some panels but it wasn't too bad.

I did start to use Dodo Juice Lime Prime but it was leaving more marks that removing so I binned it and went onto waxing without polishing the rest of the car as the car is pretty swirl free at the moment anyway.

2 coats of Dodo Juice supernatural later and once the wheels were done with Poor Boys wheel sealant it was looking pretty shiny!

BUT... When I took the 3M masking tape off it's left some residue on a couple of trim pieces which I now can't shift!!!! Any suggestions? I've tried Dodo Juice tarmalade but no joy.

Anyway, I've popped some pics up showing what the Korrosol did and also some bad rust spots I found on the underside of the boot lid as well as the required shiny shots!

You could try a dab of fairy liquid... This will remove/affect the wax as well though

I might give it a go. It's only on the rough part of the roof rail supports and a wee bit on the plastic on the wing mirror housing.

bilt hamber paint cleanser, though that might be a little overkill. and I'm guessing would also remove any LSP. shifted some 3year old sticker residue for me in no time though.

could try wd40, but again, might not be conducive to all your hard work.

IPA will see it off

Very surprised that Tarmalade didnt though

If that fails, clay will remove it

I have a good with a finger nail and while that worked on the wing mirror (texture trim, not the paint!) it hasn't shifted the stuff on the roof rails.

Here's a pic so see if it helps any other advice. I'm wondering if it's taken the coating off but I'd assume the metal underneath would be silver, unless this is primer showing through. I will be seriously unimpressed if it is.

Hi Mike999vRS

I have tried to PM you but can't fns the option, I am a new member so maybe thats the issue.

I am up your way, just awaiting my car to be built, but wondered which dealer you used, you can PM me if you don't want to publicise it, but want to know if its the same as me, and if so I shall take my inspector gadget kit with me when picking it up!!

You can't receive PM's either!

Just typed out a message to you for the system to tell me you can't use the messaging system!  :wall:

Not enough posts made :)
