2009 Yeti owners

Featured Replies

Just wondering how many 2009 Yeti owners still have their cars and how they've been getting on with them.

Mine's a 2009 1.2 TSi, although I didn't buy it until 2012 by which point it had had the engine replaced due to "excessive chain lengthening".

No problems since it's been in my posession, and I absolutely love the car.  It's now covered just over 30k and I intend to keep it for another couple of years, or until the all-new Yeti appears.

2009 140 4x4 here but I've only had it 6 months.

couple of little issues that have been a pain to sort out (I bought it from somewhere 70 miles away....never again) but apart from that its an ace car. economy isnt great and it could maybe do with more power but thats is just me :-)

Well I bought mine as an approved used in 2012 it had 37k on the clock and had already had a new timing chain, new turbo & later a shim fitted. It still growls for a second or 2 sometimes. All my dealer says is it's before the oil works it's way around, which is bull. I've had my rear doors resprayed and protective foils fitted free of charge but now my front drivers door has a blister in the paintwork. It's the timing chain issue that bothers me. Late last year I extended my warranty for another 12 months just in case. It's a shame because I Love my yeti. It's really all the car anyone could need.

Same here - the timing chain issue would prevent me holding onto the car long term which is a shame as it's close to perfect for what I need.  Ironically, having a chain rather than a belt was a major selling point for me.

Crikey, you have me concerned now! Our car is a late 2010 car bought from new and has 24K on the clock and has been faultless so far. I have looked at a FL but decided to keep ours until a new model appears. Maybe we should consider changing?  Is there any guarantee the same problems will not be happening on the newer models?

Just remember that all the "problems" mentioned above have been suffered by owners of 1.2 engined cars.

Ah, mea culpa. I scanned the postings and saw a 140 4x4!  Just re-read and see that this wasn't an engine so affected! Cheers, can sleep now! Thanks.

In the light of 1.2Tsi engine problems, does the F/L have any mods to address these 'issues' (I have had DSG and Turbo problems that are still worrying due to the occasional unexpected 'noise'/vibration).

There are no problems with the 1.2 TSi, there WAS an issue with the cam chain on early models but this has since been addressed.

I really don't think owners of said engine need to think about getting rid!  I'm certainly not.

How early is early?

However I am more concerned with my grumbly DSG (on pulling away in low gear).

How early is early?

That's a very good question!

My engine was changed early 2012, I also contacted the garage that did the work and the following response was received:

"The engine was replaced in conjunction with a Skoda Field campaign for an UPDATED timing chain. This was due to impermissible lengthening of the timing chain. This can lead to rattling noises and running problems (erratic engine operation).

On this particular occasion the chain had already lengthened to a degree that allowed it to skip hence causing internal engine damage. This resulted in an engine being replaced alongside the UPDATED Timing chain"

Was assured my 'grumble' (no fault found, computer says so) was not timing chain related by Dealer

but watch them deny it if it turns out so. Not found a better replacement yet though (still looking).

If the issue was addressed I wonder why my car occasionally rattles/growls and revs briefly rise at the same time on start up. It's never with a cold engine.

What was the Dealer response?...mine stuck to 'no fault found'...it was not easy to reproduce though. (3 times in 10 miles or never in 100 miles if you get my drift).

I just questioned the service manager once about it. He just said it's because the oil hasn't gone around the engine yet. I'll remember that if it goes bang one day.

Funny, I wanted a chain drive on my 103DSG but got belt. Now maybe I dodged a bullet.

Is the 1.2 still chain as opposed to belt?

You might remember....he won't!!

Generall advice on here is ...it is.

The 1.2 is still chain on all but the octavia. That's why recently I've been looking at an Octavia mk3 1.2 tsi on a pcp. I do love the engine, it just feels a bit like a ticking time bomb with the chain issues.
