Help me buy some new wax

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have had a small clearout of kit recently and the cupboard is looking a little bare.

I am thinking of investing in a couple of new waxes, something for my car to try, probably something to go on SWMBO's abused DD Yaris and something to treat friends to when they come over.

I have an extensive short list and just wanted to open it up for people to weigh in with their thoughts.  I appreciate the arguments for sealants and mostly agree, but I find them terribly unromantic to work with, only needing to be reapplied every 6 months or so reduces the potential detailing of the car to a wash and quick detail.  Great for applying to cars that I wont see again for another 6 months, knowing the protection will still be there when we next cross paths but for the household cars I am finding that I am an old romantic and like the personal touch that wax brings.  Yes they can be less durable, yes many of the really good spray sealing QD's will eat them, they dont sheet as well as sealants.....and I just dont care.

The brief is to at least get two waxes, one as a pure show wax, one high end but durable.  Now that better weather is here I would hope to be able to strip and re-wax the car more often to try these out.

Now I am going to cheat a little because my list will have some Hybrids on here - but these are for SWMBO's car in fairness

Thanks Jack, that's why I have Angelwax Desirable in there.

.....rumour has it, that it's the same wax! ;)

I'll be following this thread for the obvious reason... :bandit:

Might buy some wax as well   :sun:

I like using poorboys products. Not too expensive leaves a great finish and the wax / polish is easy to put on and take off. Im Away to buy some ltd edition nattys paste wax red to try out. Also smells like strawberries :). I do have the nattys blue and it smells like bubblegum. Amazing :)

Despite the whole rumor over it, I would be very very surprised if it was the same wax. Supposedly they took the wax from Angelwax and went and got their own made up. But working in the chemical industry I know you would need very deep pockets to do this, so I think the rumors are somewhat far fetched.

I've also just started using a few Chemical Guys waxes, Pete's 53 and 50/50, have been really impressed with both of those.

I've got a custom Obsession Wax hybrid. My latest pics in my build thread show the car freshly cleaned and waxed with the OW.

I would have suggested a hybrid for your durable choice. If you want an out and out show wax and bugger the lifespan, then I'd be tempted to splash out on some a Race Glaze Black Label.

At near £300 for the RaceGlaze Sig Series Black Label that's a little rich for my blood.

Jack, story goes as I understand it, Desirable was to be a limited batch of 20 done for AF, AF took the formula and went to another (more than likely cheaper Asian) chemical firm and had it reproduced.  Pretty believable, and side by side the first batch of desirable and desire are indistinguishable.  Only difference is the cost £120 vs £60 :D .  Angelwax keep tight lipped on saying this outright (apart from some very obvious hints in the marketing and packaging), but they do also produce for other firms under own label agreements. So not that hard to believe.

I think I will definitely go for an Obsession custom wax, they are about to launch an offer on DW to get Custom Wax, Custom Shampoo and Custom Airfreshener so you can have a coordinated kit (colour and scent)

Not buying all of them in one go Matty!

There you go sparkly fixed that for you!

P.S. If your having a clear out send any products you don't want my way I will utilise them.

I Think your 'cast offs' are probably better than what most shops sell!

Oh yeah suggestion: - what about Bouncers Blue Lagoon ?

As much as I love a wax that comes with it's own flight case, I am not currently looking to spend over £200.00

I couldn't spend £300 either but if I saw a second hand jar and it was on my list, I'd be tempted.

It has a REALLY warm glow to it when it's on the car, it spreads and spreads and spreads so a little goes a long way and does rather make it quite cost effective.

We have metallic cars in our household and I only really like synthetics in metallics because they make them look more blingy, sharper and help the flake.

In simple terms it's believable. But if angel wax are a company who produce for other firms, the last thing they would do is give out the formula. And for AF to find out the formula themselves it can be an expensive process. Far outweighing the benefits of doing so.

You will have to let us know how you get on with whatever wax you choose. Even though I'm trying to refrain from buying anymore wax :(
