gearbox woes

Featured Replies

   Hi guys, my gear change has been very stiff intermittently but like a fool i hoped it would go away or be sorted at the next service. Going to work on thursday i couldn't get reverse, first, third or fifth at a set of traffic lights so i used brute focrce(a costly mistake garage has warned me) but no use i had to make do with second & forth. It is at my garage ready for monday, the gear lever is jammed half way in reverse.

ps when i got to work i found a plastic cover wedged in mechanism on top of the gearbox,it's come from under the bonnet somewhere 4 inches long & narrow. There is a moral to this story in that "if you have a problem don't ignore it"

Not the cover off the back of the headlights was it?! I did that and got same "jammed up" symptoms, but AA just pulled it out and it worked fine after that. :)

i did something similar, i couldn't get 5th for a weekend and was cacking it :o

 No,it was very hard and rigid about 4" x 1". I'm assuming that's what caused the original fault as no one seems to have heard of a similar fault.

As the Actress tried to describe the Bishop to the police! ;) :naughty:

I'm racking my brains to think what could "fall off" of those dimensions are get caught in your gearbox cables. Does the battery box look complete and is it stable? Something could have cracked off that - maybe the same for the airbox?

I should get the car back in few days then i'll find out what went wrong and where the bit came from.
