Additional Key

Featured Replies

I am exchanging an Octavia for a more recent model.I am a little concerned that the "new"car, obviously S/h may only have one key. My current car has two.

Does anyone know whether one of my existing keys can be reprogrammed for the new car?

A new key with remote capability and reprogramming will cost about £180 from local Skoda dealer.

Clearly the new car is not coming from that route.

If this cannot be done I will need to discuss a solution with my dealer.

Thanks in anticipation.

There us an immobiliser chip in your key that can not be reprogrammed. By the time you sourced a chip and sorted it all out you would have spent ad much as a new key.

You can split your key from the remote which could be reused on a new key.

Personally, I'd deduct £200 off the price I was paying the dealer since the new car isn't complete.

what year is your current Oct & what year is the newer Oct? The remote part may be compatible but the immo chip won't. Also if you're paying for it yourself don't go to Skoda. Get somebody like me to sort it out. They'll come to you & be a lot cheaper than the dealers :)

I just got a second key for my Octavia II - dealer price was north of £200 - Craig ( actionman39 above) supplied and set one up for less than half of this.

Its a nice key too.

I got a spare key today from westgate skoda in Grimsby. They are an official dealership and the key has all the remote buttons etc.

It was £177 including vat and coding.

Goshow - I suspect dealers price their work up individually.   The ex fleet car I bought only had one, and the dealer who supplied it was quoted more than your price at a 'trade rate' ...

Anyway, the key I got from Craig has all fuctionality - all three buttons and is a "bentley style" fob with a nice chrome finish to each side, and still has the Skoda ID emblem.

Also - Craig has sent me a text to ask I put a message here confirming he IS still coming up to Scotland as arranged - but has lost his internet access during a house-move, in case anyone has sent a message via his website.

£177 isn't bad at all for a dealer price. Even with a 160+ mile round trip to Grimsby I would've still been cheaper :)

My Octavia only came with one key fob too. When I have saved up my pennies I will be giving Mr Actionman a call for a spare, that's for sure.

Would recommend 'actionman39' (I won't quote his real name in case he'd rather not be named on the internet!)

Came and sorted me a new key for my Fabia, cut, programmed and checked within twenty minutes or so, hassle free, polite and helpful fella, very good at what he does too. And a very reasonable price!

Thumbs up from me.

Thanks & you're welcome!

Oh & you can post my real name. People can find it out easily enough anyway by clicking on the link to my website below :)

If you only have one key it's worth checking there are no other keys still paired to your vehicle and, if so, deleting them from what I've been told...

deleting any none present keys has to be done with VAG software or key programming tools & also requires the SKC(pin code)

When programming new keys any keys not present are automatically deleted anyways. It's extremely rare that i see just 1 key programmed to the immob when i'm doing new keys. Most cars have 2 or 3 keys in the system
