Featured Replies

i have these advisories on my m o t ,

1-nearside front lower ( rear) suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement.

2-offside front lower (rear) suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement.

3-nearside front front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt.

now im not mechanically minded at all, can i buy new ones if so where and what are they i dont have a clue ?

many thanks for your help :)

Those are all fairly common ailments to be honest, the bushes are the trickiest job to do because you need special tools to press them out and back in again, they are something like £8 each from the skoda dealer.

the cv boot, you don't mention wether it's inner or outer, but again it's quite a tricky job for a novice, not to mention you will get covered from heat to toe in moly grease, it's a horrid filthy job changing a cv boot, they are quite expensive from the skoda dealer approx £40 if I recall, but you can buy pattern parts from various online sources or from a motor factor for much cheaper.

The so-called console bushes are an extremely common problem, here's a guide to replacing them, with lots of pictures showing you what they look like and where they are. If you're not mechanically minded you are probably best advised to find an independent Skoda/VW specialist garage to do the work for you.  Just make sure they don't fit the original bush design, but an improved version such as the one with part number 1K0407183E. (Or one of the other alternatives mentioned in the guide.)

Also, in the second picture of that guide in the top right hand corner you can see the CV gaiter (black, convoluted rubbery thing) although the one pictured is on the other side of the car (offside) to the one that your car has been advisoried on. Again, a straightforward job for a garage to replace for you (1-1.5hrs labour, at a guess).
