Boot space Estate - how much to the roof?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I guess the boot space 590l with rear seats up is measured to boot cover?

So what is the boot space if measured with seats up and all the way up to the roof of the car (boot cover removed) and

in line with rear seats?

Not sure, but the combi has 610l with seats up and measured to boot cover.

On a related note - what is the maximum length of item I can get into the boot with the back seats folded down with the front seats in position for 2 average adults.  The reason I ask is that I want to transport a kayak and its about 8ft.

An 8ft object won't fit unless you get the fold-able front passenger seat.

590 is for the hatch, 610 is for the estate, regardless of the spare wheel. That space is not included in the measurement.

I just did some measurements:

- the maximum length you can fit with rear seats down is about 2 meters (6 ft, 7 in). If you put it diagonally or between the seats you might be able to squeeze in a few more inches.

- if you go for the foldable front seat, you will be able to fit about 2.8 m (9 ft, 2 in) long object. Two persons will still be able to ride comfortably, behind each other.

In any case, I think a roof rack would be a more convenient option for kayak transportation.

Yes, I can confirm the factory specs are calculated up to the boot cover.

The space above the boot cover turned out to be much smaller than I thought, because of the slant of the rear windshield. According to my rough measurements, it is about 240 l. The shape is quite complex, so it would be hard to fit bulky objects (and also dangerous).

The height from the floor of the boot to the roof of the car varies between 86-93 cm, and the height from the floor to the boot cover is 60 cm.

I deliver nursery furniture in mine.... somewhere I have a picture with an assembled wardrobe in the back!!! Combi of course how practical is that?

Thanks for the info byclops. I'll need to get a roof rack sorted. I have a whispbar roof rack which fitted my 3 series so hopefully with a new footpack it will fit. Then it will be a proper paddle wagon.
