VCDS Tricks and Tips

Featured Replies

So I recently bought the vcds software to code in my hi d's on my 2007 VRS PD170 and I have also enabled the second fog light. Are there any other cool tricks I can use to enable some stuff. I tried activating the horn while locking and unlocking the car but it doesn't seem to have worked.

Does your alarm actually work? Often the horn is dead which is why the lock/unlock beep doesn't work.

Not sure if i have an alarm actually - but the horn works

Sorry I meant siren, completely separate from the horn. Your vrs should have an alarm. Sit in it, lock it and wave your arms around and see what happens.

Wow that definitely looked weird but anyways no siren. But I did notice that the siren installed byte/bit box is not ticked either so that might be why maybe.....

Do the indicators flash? Does it have the sensors up by the interior light and a button towards the bottom of the driver's B pillar?

Indicators flash when I lock and unlock yea but I can't see any sensors or a button.

If it has an alarm the indicators should flash when the alarm activates. Thinking about it the interior sensors are behind two grills at the rear end of the plastic trim where the interior light is.

Well I know that the byte that says siren installed is unticked so I assume with this disabled it won't work

Use the VCDS to check controller 46 Central Convenience to see if you have any fault codes in the alarm. Sounds like you have the common Octavia problem of a failed siren.

Mike

Not just an Octavia problem, my Altea alarm doesnt work, mates A3 went, other mates TT gone, seems the siren units are crap, or at least the

batteries inside them are crap!

I bet OP's siren has bit the dust like many before it!

Nope no error however looking through vcds siren is blocked/disabled.....should it be installed as standard? I'm not sure if I should enable it.

When you do an auto scan, what exactly comes up for controller 46?

No fault code found.

The CCU seems to be identical on my car, I haven't directly compared the coding though.

It would seem to suggest that the alarm siren is missing or kaput, or the coding is messed up.

Subsystem 5 relates to the interior monitors I think and I assume Subsystem 6 is the noise making device in question.

What about your bytes....can you may be send a few screen shots because it looks like the siren is sey to disabled for me and had the configuration blocked.

Asking people to show you their bytes!!! Oooooh Matron!!!

I see if I get chance tomorrow to do some screen shots.

The alarm siren has definitely failed, had the same fault with my Audi A8. After replacing the Siren all is good again and no more faults.

Hopefully just replacing the siren is enough, but if the batteries have leaked good and proper then its possible the electrical connections have corroded away  so you may need short piece of wiring loom as well.

As far as I am aware all Irish vRS octys have alarm as an added extra.

None of mine came with factory alram.

Yeap I rang the dealer and they said it doesn't have one fitted..... Then I told then the dpf is regenerating about every 400km/h and asked for their advise as I assume the regeneration sensor needs to be changed but they were no help.... Back to the drawing board......

Well hopefully oz not on the way out because I noticed a few days ago there was knocking noise from front left wheel brought it to a garage but they couldn't find anything and confirmed all bushings etc to be good. Driving down from Dublin today I felt a slight vibration in the floor once I go over 80 km/h. Brought it to one of the local mechanics...He got me to rock steering wheel back and over and we heard a slight knocking noise and then underneath the car around the dpf area while rocking the wheel back and forth it sounds like steel rubbing against steel so he thinks it may be the rack itself but needs more time to rip at it and see.....The joys of motoring eh.....????????????????????????????
