Burning rubber smell from my Octavia?!!!

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

Took the Octy to Birmingham yesterday to see my dad. Went for quite a 'spirited' drive with my sister after the little cow said "...but its a skoda..." (She was impressed). Got home late last night and I could smell a burning rubber kind of smell it seemed to be coming from the Octy but I was not 100% sure. It only had a service just before I left.

By the way well impressed with the car...very comfortable drive when chilling and its a bit of an animal when you give it some stick.

Oh yes what do you guys think the smell was?

Thanks to all

Aaquil.

Sounds like the clutch to me. How much wheelspin did you get. ;) How long did you go for? How gratifying was it to wipe your Sis' face in it? ;)

Or maybe smelly brakes

more like;y brakes as it won't wheel spin J :D

well not with standard power on tarmac

Was it by any chance coming from around the NSR wheelarch area?

If so, you'll find it's been well discussed on here before. No one seems 100% sure what it is, but the general consensus seems that after a spirited drive, 'they all do that, sir'

The face of my little cow of a sister was well and truly wiped in it...especially when she had a go at driving it...she gave me a bit of a 'white knuckle ride'.

I did floor it quite a lot it goes very well around medium sized rounabouts.

The smell was a few hours later after the motorway drive on the way home and even though I didn't 'leather it' once back on the roads of Manchester (I can't as the wife will complain)...I was driving enthusiastically (the wife was dying for a wee!!!). Its when I finally got out of the car I could smell it.

Thanks for all the replies.

Oh yes by the way it seemed to grip pretty good but the tyres are quite worn so it was a bit skittish at times...I think a set of new tyres andy recommendations...I want quality price is not a problem within reason. I know that Goodyear Eagle F1's are good I have also read some good things about Toyo Proxes T1-R (?). Which would you suggest out of these two and any others (I live in Manchester and it rains a hell of a lot).

Well, I'm biased and say you can't go wrong for the dosh and Toyo T1-Rs

Thanks mate I may just try them.

Also sounds like the clutch to me. I had a similar experience a few months back. It may have been scorched. Is the smell still there after driving it today? If it is, it should disappear within a week or two.

Mine does it too, as mentioned it has been discussed before.

Yup. TADTS :) Well, mine does, anyway (and it's not even a vRS, just the bog-standard 1.8T).

Thanks guys mine is a bog standard 1.8T as well.

See if it happens again.

Have a quick look at the exhaust and check you havent gone over a plastic bag. They have a habit of flicking up and sticking to the exhaust and slowly melting away.

Thanks for that I'll have a look.

Its the smell of victory!

NO DOUBT...and the smell from my pants after my sister got behind the wheel!!!

Another "mine does that occasionally". It seems to be happening less as the car gets older though.

Thanks

Same here mine does it if I give it a bit of stick just before I get home.

I did a search on this site and now I know that it happens to other people I don't worry about it.
