Is it possible to update the amundsen ent. system without going to a dealer? 

 

and how do I know if there's a newer firmware version available?

Maps are downloadable, firmware for Amundsen and Columbus are dealer only. Even if you get hold of the files it needs re-coding afterwards, and SVC kicks in (Software Version Control).

Id like to think cars will receive regular firmware updates as a servicing activity but betting they wont bother unless theres a service bulletin for something related.

They need to be doing something as its evident to me that even current releases 1 year on from launch have a good few bugs they ought to be ironing out.

Autozooming of nav maps even when autozoom is turned ofd is my biggest bugbear right now.

You won't get firmware updates as part of servicing, unless it is to fix a critical bug.

 

For the autozoom bug, get your dealer to log it as a DISS report otherwise you don't stand a chance of getting it fixed.
