brake discs pads upgrade

Featured Replies

Im going to be changing both front and rears. Was wondering what ppl recommend. This will be on standard vrs brake setup. I will want something that can handle stage 1 4 now. Later on down the line id like to run stage 2 but that will be a while yet. I was looking at some ebc stuff but the green pads said only under 200bhp. I understand stage 1 is a bit over that?

I used Green stuff pads in front of my 1300cc rally car (Suzuki Swift GTI), 3 miles and they were goosed.

Got to the end of the stage and fitted some standard pads to keep us going.

Once the green stuff had cooled down I could break of pieces of the pad material and crumble it in my hands! Avoid like the plague.

Oh and the Swift only weighs 710Kg, so how they would cope with car the size and weight of the Octavia I don't know!!

Arent DS2500 / Mintex 1144 on standard disks supposed to be decent, along with better fluid?

Pagid seem to be popular with the guys on here.  I had standard Mintex on my old non-chipped vRS and they were excellent, so I reckon the Mintex 1144 would be good on a stage 1.

Iv used mintex before and warped the discs in under 3k so defo not having them again. strange to hear that about the green stuff. A few ppl i know rate them.

Green stuff are messy, wear out quickly, and definitely NOT an upgrade over standard pagid pads on a vRS. They weren't even an upgrade over free pads that came with Motaquip discs (back when they still did good parts) on my V40.

From previous experience I wouldn't use ebc stuff. I'd buy from your main dealer before buying them!

Pagid discs and pads from ECP are really good, reasonably priced too.

EBC I had yellow stuff, did a few track days and they were great but when cold they are a bit vague, currently have DS3000's in the Golf these are good but expensive.

Are these pagid ones going to be able to take abit of abuse tho? I was thinking maybe use the pads but go for upgraded discs? Something thats not going to warp easily.

Them pagid seem cheap? About £110 for full set of front and rears. I wonder weather to use pagid rears and front pads but just use a upgraded front disc instead of standard pagids?

I run standard pads on the rear, standard discs all round and ds3000 pads up front on my Golf that only gets track thrashed, rears do hardly anything and pagid discs are very good and up to the job IMO.

Like i say they will be getting abit of abuse. I dont want to be changing them cuz there warped again lol. Them pads are pretty expensive lol! Even the ds2500 looked dear lol!

I like the look of these disc. Will that price be per disc or per axle?

Well if everyone is saying pagid ill give them a shot lol. Think ill give it a brake fluid change. How much do I need and what dot should I use?

When ordering pads do I need the wear sensor set or non?

Get with the sensor, if your car doesnt have it there'll nothing to plug it into, so just cut the plug off the pad.

its only on one pad anyway.

Ok cheers

The pagid ones are just the same as OEM I thought. Not really an upgrade. However they are good value. :)

Is Pagid not just an ECP own brand now?

Sorry to chime in I am looking at this at the moment now too.

I have a friend who has succesfully run EBC yellow and redstuff on a circa 300bhp Mk4 R32 Golf.  If they are bedded in correctly the new formulation EBC seem pretty good.

Ideally I wanted to upgrade but everyone is saying go pagid. The ds2500 pads looked alright but they are pretty expensive. Out of front disc or pads which would be the better one to upgrade on its own. Defo gonna go pagid rear. Still umming and arrring what to do with fronts.

Pads for definite. The only difference you will notice with any other discs is cooling efficiency, which can be better improved by improving the airflow anyway. On the road you won't really notice any supposed disc upgrade, except for the increased noise of drilled or grooved discs, which are not necessarily an upgrade anyway.

Anyone used black diamond predator pads?

I recommend the following, standard rears and for the fronts: OE disks + DS2500 or Brembo Max Disks + DS2500 or ATE Power Disk + ATE Ceramic pads. I am not saying Pagid or Mintex don't work, but, DO NOT USE EBC ! :)

As for the brake fluid, definitely change. I upgraded to Motul RBF 600, you can also use Castrol SRF, or ATE Super blue. They are DOT4 but with a much higher boiling point. You need less than 1L of fluid if the change is done correctly.

You can use any combinations of disk+pad, but if you thrash it a bit and your fluid is boiled, your brakes will not work.

I swapped mine for those pirahna discs and ds2500 front n back

Although the rears are over kill so will just use a normal brembo pad rear next time lol

It was just ocd as i have to have stuff matching :D

I changed mine and used pagid all round from ecp really good tear your face off brakes when you have to stop in a hurry
