Auto Gearbox slipping in reverse problem

Featured Replies

Hi, my octavia 1999mod run 200.000 km is slipping in reverse sometimes, i changed the oil 4 months ago, maybe the autoshop did not do a good jobb, wrong amount or wrong type of oil.

What do you think this problem can come from?

Somebody that know how to change oil on these auto gearboxes, some "howto" or tutorial would be fine?

The only time I had an auto which had slipping gears it was caused by a slipping brake band. Trouble is when its slipping the fluid is getting hotter and is liable to overheat as a result. When the fluid was drained from the auto I had with slipping 5th gear it was a yucky brown colour and had a burnt smell to it. This was on a Mondeo 5 speed auto, the octavia should have a similar setup, it was relatively cheap to fix as well which was a relief.

Did you take the cap off the brake reservoir before pushing the piston back? Possibly trapped air?

Surely that's the opposite of what you want in a transmission...You NEED the friction in clutch packs, or you don't have drive.Try an oil change. If that doesn't cure it, then you'll probably need to rebuild the reverse gear clutch pack.
