urgent help needed

Featured Replies

I have drove my mk1 vrs to drop the grandparents iff at hospital then parked up and nipped toilet came back it started but then died but now it wont start at all it is turning over but not firing any suggestions guys?

If it's starting and then stopping a couple of seconds later, then it is an immo problem. If not, check the fuses on the battery and in the main fusebox at the end of the dash.

Can you hear fuel pump priming ?

ive had a blocked fuel filter do this before

Have you got a VCDS or OBD-II scanner handy? Best bet is to check what fault is coming up (if engine management light is on)

i was having starting problems before, but that was from a cold engine, and found it to be a lambda sensor in the exhaust. Replaced it and now starts first time every time.

Another thing to look at is the rpm whilst the engine is cranking. If it stays at zero, then it could be the crank sensor, which is a common cause of non-starting.

I got it started in the end guys im suspecting either a blocked fuel filter (due a major service) or tempremental pump or maybe both so i will be doin filter and looking at upgrading pump. Thanks for help and input guys

Would still check the crank sensor before you go looking at fuelling problems. Just my 10p worth but would think it more likely.

If it happens next time rise the rear seat and kick the body close to the fuel pump. After few punches if the car starts, you need a new fuel pump.

Well tbh i did raise back seat and take pump cover off and wiggle the plug on it the tried starting to see if i could hear pump purging but it then started

Check your EGR valve body isnt clogged up. My MK1 did a similar thing at Christmas. The Butterfly valve in the EGT housing was sticking closed. I whipped it off, less than 5 minutes, and scraped what i could out with a screwdriver, then gave it a good go over with Mr Muscle oven cleaner and a  toothbrush. (use someone elses toothbrush, not yours!)

If it does it again, as well as checking the pump, just look at the actuator on the rear of the EGR housing and touch it if it is extended out. It should just pop back if its sticking.
