epc light & poor starting, no fault codes

Featured Replies

1.4 tsi facelift model

for the past 2-3 days I've been needing 3,4 or 5 attempts to start the car from cold, vs 1 originally. it fires, the epc light stays on, it splutters and dies. This morning it stayed running but sounded rough, like a missing cylinder maybe. But... once i got it over 1000 rpm once it was ok at all revs. I got Skoda Assist (rac) to come later, but sadly it started first time then. But no fault codes showed, despite the weird behaviour up until then.

Has anyone experienced this, or got any suggestions?

Thanks

How many miles on the car?

Where do you buy your petrol, and is it 95 ron you run.?

(EPC light, not the Exhaust Control light?)

Maybe try a tank or 2 of 'Tesco Momentum 99', only an extra £3 maybe and worth it.

or even the slightly more expensive tank (another £3) of Shell V Power Nitro.

He should have got a code if a coil was going,

maybe not if a Spark Plug is going, i often see no fault code,

because not enough misfires have been in the cycle to register.

?? Has the Air Filter been looked at and checked,

has it got damp from driving in driving rain?

Thanks for suggestions. It's got about 55k miles. Petrol mostly 95 from Tesco.

It's the epc light (& engine light).

I've not looked at the air filter, but will try to. Do they ever get damp normally, or would that be a sign of bad drainage somewhere?

When was the Air Filter last changed,

Were the spark plugs changed at 40,000 miles or before that?

I only use Tesco Momentum (which comes from Greenergy),only 5 pence a litre more, than the 95 ron,  A mate drives a tanker.

I would never ever consider using Tesco 95 ron in any car.

i don't think I've got precise details of servicing before 50k when i bought it. But it has all stamps from the supplying Skoda garage if I remember right, so i might be able to find out from them.

Interestingly it's been fine now since yesterday morning. it's not rained much since then either. I'll see if there's a correlation in future.
