Toyota Celica Oil Use Advice---AGAIN

Featured Replies

Some of you may remember this thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t29459-.html

When my wife drove her Celica with almost zero oil in it  Well we had no nasty noises etc and thought she had got away with it. She still may have done but I have another question.

It was serviced soon after that incident about 6 weeks ago. I now make sure she checks the oil weekly but yesterday noticed that the level is now down to minimum. It was obviously at max after the service. Is this level of oil usage normal? She covered 1800 in the 6 weeks.

Should we be worried? The oil on the dipstick looked fresh not mucky black ;)

I could use this as an excuse for her to change her car  But then we need to know if the engine is showing signs of bu**ery

As ever advice appreciated as its only done 37,000 miles.

Off the top of my head, the allowed amount of oil consumption is 1 litre per 1000miles. Bearing in mind the dipstick usually takes about 1 litre to fill from just below the min mark to full again, this could be classed as normal use. Have your dealer carry out an oil consumption check and see what it comes up with. :)

Does that also apply to Twin Cam models? (@ dipstick comment)

Reason I ask is that ive got a 16v 2.0 twin cam celica turbo which is also going through oil quite a lot

I do a lot of motorway driving and use the turbo quite a lot, plus ive got a little leak on the front oil radiator (minimal though, just a worn thread on the plug) and im going through quite a lot of oil too.

I find it hard to work out how much oil is in there according to the dipstick because ive got 2 dipsticks so I presume its two seperate chambers in there?

Thanks

I'd prob say keep a closer eye on it.

Could it be that winter etc is placing more strain on the engine? like keeping it running for longer to warm it up or keeping the climate control on etc....

Top the oil up and make sure it's not making any noises that aren't normal.

I have read that you shouldn't be too worried if the oil looks black anyway as that shows that it is doing it's job.
