Sorry, vRS space saver again

Featured Replies

I've done a search and can't see what I need

Can someone give me the spec of the space saver for the vRS including size and offset, or better still take a photo showing the information.

I spoke to my dealer and he said he can order a 16" space saver but I told him it wouldn't fit.  He was unaware of this. I told him it should be 18" which he checked and confirmed was correct  He then said his system wouldn't let him order a spare for the vRS so I'm looking elsewhere.  I phoned VW but they quoted £290 for a space saver from a Golf GTD.  Looks like eBay then!!

I don't think I ever updated that thread with my result.  I got the right full size alloy from eBay (a used but good condition alloy from a seat Leon fr) for Errrr £60 or £65 delivered.  I l bought a new  2 tonne rated scissor jack from ebay for £15,  1 and 1.5 tonne ones are a available from about £12 but I thought I'd get a safer/stronger/bigger one for the little extra.  So I've spent £5 more then getting the Skoda option, but now have a full size spare, or will when I get the tyre.... I'm still waiting on the car though.

This may sound daft but what size of space saver should be ordered with 18 inch Golus wheels on an SE estate?

My car arrived with a 16 inch full size spare, but dealer now looking to change it for the appropriate space saver.

He claims I need the 17 inch space saver but needs to double check. Needless to say I'm a little confused!

Can anyone out there tell me what size the spare should be?

I have 18" Golus on an Elegance and a 16" full size spare (6.5J).

The rolling radius of 205/55/R16 and 225/40/R18 is basically the same.

Why he thinks you need a 17" is beyond me - you are still speed limited on a 16 or 17" as they are a different size and profile to the other wheels, so are classed as temporary spare wheels.

Diameter 631.9mm 637.2mm

Circumference 1985.2mm 2001.8mm

Speedo error 0% -0.83%

Reading at 30mph 30mph 29.75mph

Reading at 60mph 60mph 59.5mph

Ride height gain 0mm 2.65mm

Arch gap loss 0mm 2.65mm

205/55/16 on the left, 225/40/18 on the right. To all intents and purposes they are the same.

I have 18" Golus on an Elegance and a 16" full size spare (6.5J).

Maybe the dealer is getting mixed up with the vRS?  My understanding is that a 16" wheel won't clear the calipers.

I'm sure I've seen a thread on there with someone who got a full kit from Skoda for double the cost of the "upgrade" from the goo to the spacesaver (I think the upgrade was £80?).  Unfortunately I can't find it.

He is being dim... He is looking at the spec for the vrs that has the 18" wheels and reading the spare as the 17".... Which it is to get over the vrs front brakes.  Stick with the 16" spare for the se.

Quite correct, a 16" won't clear the calipers on a vRS.

I have a CR150 DSG Elegance and 16" clear the calipers on that, but not by much.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling
