Pegasus Wheel Corrosion

Featured Replies

I thought the slow leak from one tyre was probably a slow puncture . Did not get worse over 5000 miles or so at 4 psi per week.

Still there after getting new tyres, visible blister type corrosion under paintwork around two tyre valves is a likely cause. Annoying and a reason I still prefer steel wheels.

68,000 miles at 5 years is not too bad I suppose. Any ideas for protecting this area after refurbishment? Waxoyl spray maybe or is that likely to damage valves?

I think you may have been unlucky. I have had Pegasus' fitted since and have no issues like that. Hopefully a refurb should sort them for a few more years.

I also had a slow puncture on one of my Proteus alloy wheels.

These alloys are however notorious for corrosion due to the polished spokes and rims.

The tyre fitter took the tyre off, sealed the rim with some special 'sealant' and re seated the tyre. It's been fine ever since.

I'll be getting it refurbed before I get a new set of tyres.
