MK1 Leon Cupra R or MK2 Octavia VRS ?

Featured Replies

Try and find some local just to have a test drive, that way you know what suits you better

Ibiza T Cupra any good ? The 180hp doesn't seem it will be any quicker than a mapped Fabia.

Cupra, lots more fun and will feel quicker IMO.

I have the ibiza T cupra. 70k on the clock, 54 plate. It's basically getting sold for about £3k. Which is peanuts for the amount of car you get. They remap to about 210bhp too. Same engine as the Leon cupra non-r version.

But what's the performance like ? Kind of want a step up from a Fabia VRS.

Go and test drive one! It's 180bhp in a car a lot lighter than an octavia. But only 3 doors on the ibiza.

Plus tasty ap brakes and upgrades people retrofit to fabias etc.

Yep! Brakes on my beeza are fantastic. As already said, only getting rid because i now need a diesel and a 5-door. But the OP needs to test drive all these cars - everyone is different.

Hmmmm. Might do. I'm not short of CTR's to look at. But those are common as muck. I'll probably have to rule out a MK2 VRS as they are out of my price range, unless I want one with a transformer badge.

The ibiza cupra mk4 petrol is a rare car. Not many were made and even less exist on the roads today. The diesel cupra were far more plentiful, but still not common. The FR - that's a different car. I'm talking cupras (with the front mount intercooler and ap brakes as std)

You love picking modified cars don't you... ;)

More is that the correct one. :P. I knew that one was dodgy. Oddly cheap for the milage.

Whilst the issue may be okay to run with, from what I've read it appears that bearing failure is known of. This is the exact same issue my friend has had with his. Resulting in a reconditioned gearbox.

Not saying don't buy one- just check for excess whining noises on deceleration.

I still think it must be a rarity. The only common issue I know of is coilpacks giving up.

Father seems to have a hard time understanding that an 03 Cooper S will drink more than a MK1 Leon Cupra R. Big supercharger constantly spinning in a tiny little engine, surely it's common sense ?

Would be about even overall I'd have thought. The early S was known to drink but the 1.8t is far from frugal

But it's muuuuch easier to get over 30mpg out of a Leon than a Cooper S. I don't think most owners have ever got over 30mpg, even on a run. Appparently the facelift model with the Turbo is muuuuch better on fuel, but I doubt it sounds anywhere near as nice.

Back on topic, there's a rather nice 02 Audi TT 225 Quattro near by, 02 plate with 69k on the block. Only 3995. Should I ?

I guess if you're doing loads of long runs then yeah they'd be a bigger difference. The MK1 TT is getting better with age (imo) and a clean one will hold it's value I reckon. That said, if I was close to being able to get a MK2 Octavia then I'd go for one of them, miles nicer inside than a Seat and newer tech/engine.

Mk2's are out of my price range unfortunatly. That one I have seen advertised looks a bit unloved on close inspection. I'm not driving 50 miles for a "maybe". Also, does 4650 for an 04 Cupra with 82k on the clock sound steep ?

Well there's a pile on auto trader with sub 70k for less than £5000 so I'd say yes, but it depends on condition too. 50miles to look at a car? I've traveled further for lunch!

A nice dealer car or car in good condition ? Yes. A tatty looking one ? No.
