K04 conversion questions

Featured Replies

Hi guys, pretty new here. I've a few questions. I've gotten a k04 turbo conversion,

including:

tubro

standard intake pipe

downpipe

manifold

all the water and oil lines

I have a 2003 Octavia vRS, currently mapped to 212hp. All the bits I got came off a TT with the BAM 225 engine.

The main question is obvious, what else do I need?

1. Will the manifold and turbo just bolt straight on with the engine taken out?

2. Do I need a different downpipe or will the TT one work for me?

3. What's the best TIP for me to get?

4. Best budget intercooler?

5. Is the front of an Octavia different to a mk4 golf/bora (asking as there are kits available second hand for those cars that I know of) or do I need to get a Octavia specific kit?

6. Is the fuel rail on the BAM and AUQ the same, or do I need a new fuel rail also?

The guy that does all of the VAG mapping in Ireland has gotten 270-280 out of the k04 on many occasions in the past. That is what I'm hoping to reach.

I'm looking at the G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch set up, that is well capable of handling the 280hp.

I'm hoping to get most of the parts I need second hand as my budget isn't the biggest. So if anyone knows of, or has the parts I need, please let me know!

Any and all help/advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave.

better off k03s hybrid less effort and better gains... alot of work going k04 might even be cheaper to just stick a BAM engine in

Beach buggy turbos do a KO3s hybrid (K300) that is good for 310bhp with the right mods!

You'll need Welly cooler,70mm R-Tech ind kit,RODS,TT maf,450cc injectors (maybe smaller injectors, but 450's will be fine!),fuel pump upgrade like Bosch 044.....er can't think of anything else but there will be some bits I've missed!

Full exhaust! Duh! Lol

Ported exhaust manifold will help, water methanol kit!

Now that you mention it, what is a hybrid turbo? I've tried googling it in the past and didn't find much. Or else I found it and didn't realise I did! Roughly, what is the cost of doing a hybrid job?

As for being cheaper to do a K04 job, I got a K04 at a very, very good price, have a lot of the bits sourced for a bargin. The only real expense I'm looking at is injectors and FMIC. I already have a 2.5" exhaust on.

A hybrid turbo is an oem turbo which has been modified to make it more powerful

Normally this would be by installing larger compressor wheels, improving flow etc

As I switched tab to do another quick google/google the Beach buggy KO3s hybrid, I then found out what's involved. Thanks, feel like an idiot now!

Diff !

I won't be getting a diff just yet! I'll live with torque steer for awhile!

Diff !

As Pete said.

Diff will make the car quicker on your average road with a few bends than just upping the power.

An Octy with big bhp really under performs without a front diff.

You'll have people in less powerful cars leaving you behind while you wait for the inside tyre to stop spinning.

Over 200bhp I'd personally get the diff before more power.  Assuming front wheel drive.

lsd diffs don't create or remove torque steer

they will reveal it if its present in your car though

I have 2 questions.

If you are going on 250+ hp, will you be changing rods? According to some tuners, they are a weak spot on this engines.

And second, where to get hybrid ko3s? Links will be great.

I'm hoping to see 280hp. But I won't be going at the internals yet. I've a good few friends that are at the 270-310 mark and none of which have upgraded the internals and have been running that much power for all over twelve months.

As for going with a hybrid, I've no idea. I'm going to stick with my k04 for awhile. If funds allow it when I'm bored of 280hp then I might hybrid the k04.
