A quick decat question

Featured Replies

I'm looking to by a decat pipe as the final step before I go for a stage 2 map and wondered it a golf mk5 tfsi decat will fit my tfsi vrs ?

I'd like to say it 'should' be the same, as you probably well know they are based on the Mk5. I can't imagine they would run a different cat just for the different brand but car manufacturers can do some strange things. Check out the returns policy on the de-cat pipe you want to buy and maybe just take the punt. I take it there isn't one listed as fitting the Skoda but there is for the VW?

Or have one made by an exhaust specialist to guarantee it fitting, usually reasonable money and even cheaper if you take them the cat already off the car to copy.

Thanks , I only ask as some listed on eBay say they fit golf and octavia where as others say just mk5 fitment ?

It is going to be cheaper to by the one that says its just for the mk5 so maybe its worth a punt :/

Remember that a missing CAT is now an instant MOT failure before the emissions are even tested and you could face a vehicle prohibition notice at a roadside check. Best keep the original exhaust parts handy just in case.

Thanks for the heads up.I work at a gargage so it will be swapped when MOT time comes :)

And the price of sportcats for these cars is stupid!! Just because its a tfsi they seem to double in price compaired to my mk1 vrs

^ How can a decat make a car unroadworthy??

Unroadworthy as in not being able to pass a UK MOT test

But that does not constitute "Unroadworthy"

Some people like extra power some dont.I myself feel the car is slow especially coming from a mid 300bhp car and cannot justify the price of a sport cat.If people want to be picky about saving the planet then consider the precious metals being used up in cats and the fact that making the car run more efficiently improves mpg.It always annoys me that my old 1.9tdi passat can get better mpg than 1.6tdi blue motion golfs that I use at work because of all the emissions devices strangling the engine.I know its against the law so argument/discussion on a public forum is always going to be met with opposition.

It'll always be a topic that splits opinion. At the end of the day, legal or not, it's the owners choice to do it.

I'm sure most if not all of the people removing the cat are well aware of the risks involved.
