Service History no reciepts - not worth a jot

Featured Replies

Just thought Id share this nugget with the proletariate out there.  My recently purchased 500 quid furby 1.9 Tdi came with a service book stamped with numerious garage stamps heres the rub the last 4 enteries (3 stamped) are I am sure nothing more than fictitious nonsense. The pen used is the same between 2 periods.there are are other anomiles also that give rise to doubts.

Heres the rub...Three stamps have no postcode contact details and the town simply does not not exist. I have spent ages hunting on net to no avail ---Tannahaugh? might as well be Tannochbrae!!!!   Close scrutiny of writing with magnifying glass shows the same person has made enteries over a 5 year period..pah!!  Worryingly the T/ belt entry at 94k cannot be trusted so I need to get this done asap as now at 118k The last trustable T/ belt in s book was done at Aberdeen Skoda 63k....OMG.

So what I am saying here is that with no reciepts for parts used a service history cannot be trusted or believed.

The dodgy stamps look like this>>>>

    A CLARK  AUTOS  AND

             COMPANY

WELL PARK GARAGE. TANNAHAUGH

SALES.SERVICE.BODYSHOP.HIRE.

From your description I think I'd spot it a country mile away tbh. Mine had no receipts, it was a company car and they kept all of them for accounts. The book was stamped from the PDI to the 120,000 mile service all at the same dealer who was also the supplying dealer, it all checked out to be true. Just got to be careful.

Might it be this garage? https://plus.google.com/114375149979124977794/about?gl=uk&hl=en

Could be worth giving them a ring to check if it is, or if they have any records?

Could be that Tannahaugh is an area or district of a town known locally? If you search for the area of Sheffield I live in, Google doesn't come up with owt either, just the two neighbouring districts.

Was this purchased privately or from a dealer?

If you got it from a dealer, then when you get the V5 it maybe worth contacting the previous keeper to see what they gave out. Could be the dealer is pulling a fast one.

if you got it privately then who knows, maybe they did their own servicing and just used a stamp in the book.

That said, it is a 14 year old car purchased for a good price.

Hello  IP The car was bought from Dundee via Gumtree private sale and it has lived all its life in Aberdeen then Stonehaven  where it was regulary serviced at a legit Laurencekirk indy  and then latterly the car was owned by a chappie in Broughty Ferry from where I bought it. I had already found that Saltcoates Garage during my searches  I just dont see someone from Angus getting their car serviced in Ayrshire some 155 miles apart.

That is a good price for the car, but it's good to know the service history can be relied upon.

63k to 118k is nothing for a cambelt, but I suspect for you that is over more than the usual 4 years, so should be changed asap!

OK. Cool. I just thought it may be worth a look if you hadn't found that garage already with your searches. I had no idea where it had lived or were you bought it from. At least when you've had the cambelt done. it will still be a bargain.
