MOT passed, but an odd headlight advisory

Recommended Posts

Tip - once the headlight have been sanded and polished to perfection,    get some 3M clear flim to stick onto the headlamps permanently.   This will prevent the lenses from suffering the same failure again in a year or two's time.

This is what I did to my Fabia.   Initally I sanded and polished to perfection,  but the same failure re-occured 12months later.  (natural weathering and UV fading causes this to happen to plastics,  think old style open top cars with plastic rear windows).

next time I resanded the lights, i applied 3M clear film and it's been fade free ever since.   The only bits that have faded were the bits where I didn't have quite enough 3m (ie the edges!).

PS.  u can also use proper stuff like 'Lamin-X' too

I've tried the toothpaste method and it did work, it is in need of another polish but I'm going to use aquafresh this time as my car didn't like the taste of colgate. :giggle:  ;)  :D    :wait:

Thanks GTI Fly, where did you source the 3m from?

Is it headlight specific?

Hi,

I think Lamin-X will be easier to source off the web.    I've recently used some on my R32 fog lights, and it was dead easy to use too.    Cut to fit,   spray a bit of water on both surfaces,  hairdrier ready, and just push on,  squeeze water bubbles out and job done.

Lots of places sell Lamin-X,

Stay with using CLEAR film :)
