auto transmission problems

Featured Replies

I believe I have a bad torque converter because the car slips gears driving forward. It also cuts out if just placed into drive when cold and jerks forward. If I press the gas flat out it does not move from the first gear unless I take my foot off the gas slightly. The main problem I have is when placed in reverse gear the car does not move at all (not even on a level road). What can be the cause of that? I am struggling and not sure if I need a whole new transmission!

What engine has is got? This determines the type of transmission, which differ significantly depending on engine.

it might just be low fluid level, but slipping transmission is bad for the fluid already inside as it will be burning up and overheating.
