Columbus question

Featured Replies

Finally got a columbus and even though there are many threads about it i have 2 questions

1. Does the screen alter day/night automatic or is it only manual.

2. The maps are from 2012 and no POI, is their a way to install them.

in regards to question 1, it depends on what version firmware is installed.

from 4120, it automatically adjusts between day/night, and brightness depending on the light sensor.

if sidelights r switched on, it also switches to night mode.

mine (MY11 model) came with firmware 2xxx from factory.  it didn't have that feature till I did the firmware upgrade.

4020 firmware automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen.

3810 didn't.

If you are on an early 2 partition firmware, then you'll first need to upgrade to a 3 partition firmware.

Then reinstall maps. The latest is v.10 (available from VW & possibly Skoda dealers now) which will put POI's on for you in the new format.

Do you know what firmware you have installed?

Sw-version 5218

Have 3 partitions

Only day/night for the map screen under extras.

I may believe that the question asked by me should been different.

It has the night/day option, does the screen change automatic or you choose day or night and dims

Another question

On the bolero the volume button and other side button were illuminated when no lights on.

Meaning at night with light switch off, they were illuminated so you could see them

Can this be done on the Columbus

Changes between day/night are controlled by the lights. Lights on and it must be night time...

If this feature is turned off in the Columbus menu then putting the lights on or off will have no effect.

Dimming of the screen is controlled by a small round sensor in the top right of the front face of the Columbus. During the day time put your finger on it and the screen should dim slowly but noticeably.

If you don't have the sensor then auto dimming is not an option. With 52xx firmware and a new Columbus you should have this feature as it's been in since 4020 firmware.

The Columbus dials are both illuminated but only if the lights are on. I don't think there is any way to change this.

Mine always has changed from day to night time screen when I put the lights on and vice versa, there is a setting you can change. Press the set up button then the "display" box and then brightness you can change between day/night/automatic.

Under setup - screen i do have de option day/night/automatic

But on the map under extras only day/night appears.

Although today during day the day screen was pn and when picked the car evening the night was on even though did not have the lights on, it was on off position.

Changing the light switch on/off nothing happened still stayed on night screen, must see tomorrow when hoing to work.

Thanks

If you don't have / can't select 'automatic' then it will stay in whatever mode (day/night) is selected irrespective of the lights.

Auto dimming of the screen also has nothing to do with day or night or automatic mode.
