I seem to have a light fixation

Featured Replies

SuperSkoda uprated interior & boot lights ordered. Along with Philips X-Treme Vision H4 headlight & H7 foglight bulbs to put in, AND some Philips X-Treme Vision upgrades to the reversing lights.

I have bought a set of mats though so it's not all about the lighting.

Chavtastic  :giggle:

I have the uprated boot light, I guarantee you will be impressed by it. The standard one is pathetic.

You may find you will need to trim a slither off one side and the bottom edge of the hole it fits into, only about half a millimetre with a scalpel. as the LED lamp is just slightly bigger and the bottom of the lamp wont clip in. so carefully trim it until it goes in.

I need to make sure it all works 1st. I noticed last night mine isn't lit. Here's hoping it's a bad bulb connection and not the boot catch. I haven't had time for a gander.

Are would that be a step too far?  :giggle:

That is a massive step too far you'd need a long run up!

If you open the tailgate the interior lights should come on, if they do then I would say its just the boot bulb or the flimsy terminals holdin the bulb need squeezing together (I had that on mine)

Just tried, nothing. Bulb looks OK, tried a bit of fettling but still nothing. I'm at work so I'll get the Volt meter out when I get home.

Boot open interior lights on no boot light.

Not forgetting a £50 increase in your insurance premium.

Sounds like the your tailgate switch is okay, The fuse for the boot is the same one as for the interior lights.

I hate electrics!!!!

Just had a thought the tailgate switch should trigger the mimic on the MDI, showing the back window in 'White'. I've only just found out the bonnet does as well.

I blew the fuse on mine when I tried to improve the lamp by making a reflector for it and crossed it (Schoolboy Error) but the same idea worked on my Kawasaki indicators.

Really?

I'm curious about the upgrade for fog lights in my FL Elegance. It seems strange to have the "old warm" bulb fog lights along with the lovely xenons. Is there a bulb, I could swap, like for like, to make the front fogs "white", yet road legal? Cheers

I suggest you read that thread again. Nowhere does it give an official view from SUK that fitting a replacement bulb of equal wattage results in a cessation of the cars warranty. It was just the view of one person in one dealer. Nothing more than that.

The fitting of HID's to a previously non-equipped car however may be a different matter, as might be altering the wiring by fitting resistors for LEDs, but that is not what is being discussed here.

Osram Nightbreaker Plus or Phillips Extreme have been recommended by many of us here.

"In order to keep your manufacturer’s warranty intact we have to fit genuine replacement parts. This enables us to offer a 24 month parts and 12 month labour guarantee against any defect"

Let's not confuse brighter bulbs with higher wattage ones. The Extreme Vision (and similar) ones draw exactly the same power as the OEM ones but use it more efficiently to make more light. There is no way that this can be a factor for warranty or insurance.

On the foglights, a yellower light is actually more effective in fog than whiter light, since the blue wavelength is more susceptible to scattering by the water droplets in the fog aerosol, increasing the back-scattering effect (ie, lighting up the fog rather than the road).

And?

That is again the views of one dealer, and not the importer/manufacturer.

2 further points:

1/ What bulbs do Skoda dealers provide if they had to replace one?

2/ As bulbs are not a warranty item, why is a dealer involved?

And lastly, even if that could be made to stand up in Court, the only thing that might be affected would be that part of the vehicle directly connected the bulb, and nothing else.

Provide me with a statement from Skoda UK otherwise, I'm sorry, but your point is not and cannot be proved, in connection with replacement bulbs.

As an aside, I did actually get Skoda to replace a bulb under warranty.

One of my DRL bulbs went after only 4 months, which considering they are supposed to be "long life" I thought unreasonable. One dealer refused point blank to replace unless I paid around £40, so I raised the matter with SUK and the bulb was replaced by another dealer. His comment was that fi I'd gone to them he would have done it anyway, just to get/keep customer goodwill. The first dealer lost a customer!

Weasley, quite!

That was exactly my point Graham...

Sorry, but I must have missed that point.

I bet if you went to 3 different dealers, 1 they would all tell you something different, and 2 they would all give you different make bulbs!   :giggle:

Right back on topic. Philips X=Treme Headlight H4 bulbs and rear reversing light bulbs fitted. I had a quick look at the fog lights but couldn't see how to release the bulb clip.

Boot lamp has a fault. There is continuity across the bulb but not to each connection point. The continuity stops at the diode/resistor type thing.
