Front Discs / Pads change

Featured Replies

About to change my first set (at 47k - not bad life for brakes) of discs / pads - am getting Skoda parts for around £145 incl.

Have done this on a few fords / astras / BXs - just wondering if the job is pretty standard, and if anyone has any tips / things to watch out for with the Fabia.

It's a 2011 1.6tdi scout estate

jme, no don't worry. There is nothing that will surprise you on this if you've already done the job on those other motors. It's all very straight forward like most things on VAG cars.  Just work safe with good axle stands and blocks and you'll be in heaven with your spanners.

Is there a reason you are buying from Skoda?

Rather than say getting it much cheaper at somewhere like Eurocarparts?

I've had huge problems with ECP / GSF in the past - they often give me the wrong size / fitment - although they've sorted it out it's a 35 mile round trip each time.  Skoda happen to have them on the shelf and I need them for the weekend as my MOT is early next week - and to be honest 45k from a set of skoda discs / pads is pretty good.

I prefer to do the job myself as I'll know it's been done to the standard that I want - I know it can be done cheaper but it's the right balance of availability, location and cost for me at the moment,

Thanks Estateman - that answers my question.  Have been cought out by theaded pistons in the past that had to be wound in as opposed to compressed, and didn't want to get caught out.

Fair enough, makes sense.

I have recently gotten to know my local EBC distributor and general parts place a lot better and have been really pleasantly surprised. I use EPC as an example, but I personally have a big problem with paying a dealer more for parts than I can buy same or better elsewhere. But and it's a big but, these guys are very handy for me to get to, same as the local ECP.

As for doing it yourself, completely agree.

jme, it's just like this....so very easy just like the ones you've already done. Afraid I've never made any vids of doing this as in too much of a hurry when working. But the guy below did.

A small suggestion. If you fit EBC Greenstuf pads, they cause almost no wear of the disks and therefore don't make the wheels black. The disks then last for ever.

These pads last a long time and give excellent braking.

I buy them from:-

A small warning. There are 2 different type of calliper fitted on Fabias and you need to check them to get the correct pads. Look at the shape of the pads if you aren't sure about the brand of calliper.

The same web site sells disks and drum brake shoes as well as pads for the rear depending on what you need for your car.
