Vrs lowering advice - comfortable low?

Featured Replies

As standard, the octy vrs has a good ride hight but I would like mine a bit lower. On previous cars ive gone for 35-40mm springs on standard shocks with great handling and still keeping quite a comfy ride.

Can anybody comment on their setups with recommendations.

With pics would be great

Sping only though, not going for expensive setups or coilovers.

Kind regards

I'll get shouted at for this but I used the eibach springs for the standard octy which drops the vrs 10mm on 18s. It just enough,

It handles well and rides nicely and the back isn't way lower than the front!! I've got some pics on my car thread in members cars il post a link

I'll not shout at you done exactly the same as above lol.

Good good

Thanks, abit concerning the rears dropping lower than front. Mine is currently standard and ive always thought the rear has looked lower! Would annoy the hell out of me! Think I would be happy for 20mm drop 10 juwt doesnt quite cut it. Would prob have to go 20 front 10 back lol

By far the weakest link if you go with h&r springs will be the standard shock absorbers. They are designed to work best with the softer standard springs. Anything stronger and you get little to no rebound damping at all. I went with cobra springs supposedly -30mm f/r and got the saggy backside. Pogo stick ride etc. Awful. If you want to go with springs imo you'llneed uprated shocks too. I think the h&r spring is quite strong too.

Octy is heavier so although the mkiv springs will fit they are the wrong loading.

Fronts never the issue always the back end that drops to far think dpms website quotes the spring weights on each kit. not sure on the plate weight on the car though.

Don't go for any none skoda vrs springs. They will not lower car as the vrs has 25mm lower than golf and none VRS spring as std . Also as mentioned golf springs are wrong poundage. The only spring that will lower the VRS 10 to 15mm is the H&R springs that are VRS specific. They are also only spring that keeps the front and rear height balanced. They are uprated springs and work best with uprated shocks. Although I know loads of folks with them fitted to std shocks with no issues.

Those H&R springs seem good value to me, I feel coilovers are great, but you need to spend good money to make it worth while. At £189 I could be tempted myself as and when the £'s are available.

I've Koni STR.T kit with mentioned springs waiting in the boot for fitting. Can post pics once installed and tell more bout ride quality...

That is a good set up you will like that. I had Koni Fsd's with h&r springs and only sold them because I wanted to go lower and have track use. My mate is still running his vrs with them on.

Cheers for the cmments guys. I thought the vrs was 15mm lower as standard? H&R do seem to be the way forward from what ive searched but funds wont stretch that far yet. Its more for looks than handeling so shocks wont be an issue but def not going for a cheap set to get saggy ass as is looks aweful would perfer to stay standard.

Rears fitted today. Still waiting for new strut bearings for front end.
