dif/box explosion..!

Featured Replies

So guys, since I was on here last my box exploded.!!

Since removing, it apears the dif exploded and a nice hole between the gear/dif house and bellhousing..

I sourced a new box and at the same time I fit my g60 fly and vr6 clutch..

So my run of luck continues as my car was booked in to have front mount pipework made Tuesday but couldnt make it so its been postponed :-(

But the car is back on the road and it wasnt to bad a job on the driveway.

Have a nice book of reciepts now lol. Not much left to change on the bloody car now!! :-o

Like I have said before .....you're an animal !!!

Believe it or not mate when it happened I had my son and preg partner in the car so wasnt being larey..

Pulled off the lights in rhoose 1st, 2nd into 3rd.. soon as I came off the clutch and onto throttle BANG.. Like I ran over a house brick..

But the madest thing was, the car got me all the way home (some 4 miles) and I could select all 5 gears inc reverse...

But pulled onto my drive and box oil emptying! :-/

Madness

Thats one thing with mine, never failed to get me home, Mine was the same when it popped got me home.

By the way.. what was that gasket I needed for my downpipe-decat ?

I went into euro parts yesterday and the guy in there was a ****er! Didnt wanna help me at all. . Infact after 10 mins of patronising me I near dragged him over the counter. Bald short guy. Arsehole

I sourced a new box and at the same time I fit my g60 fly and vr6 clutch..

new? LOL.  ;)

I used one off what they said was an old volvo.

Not sure which they just matched it up to the pipe.

As I said to him.. my trouble is the pipe is on the car but I did say if he fetched me a couple of triangle gaskets with a 3' internal diameter I wpuld know straight away which one I need..

His most intelligent commnt while patronising me and avoiding helping was....

"We have loads of them, could be a triangle gasket with 3 bolt holes or 4 bolt holes....."

Lmfao.. thats when I lost my rag. Clearly not dealing with the sharpest tool in the box amd its not rocket science is it. Get me a couple of triangle gadkets which obv will have "3" bolt holes and 3' internal hole and I will tell u what one...

I had to leave lol

Dumbass.. how can a tri have 3 bolt holes haha

Your threads never fail to make me chuckle.

I had the diff explode on my 205 gti on route to Sheffield managed 6 miles before it finally gave up pulling into the arena car park, at that point the engine was hitting the bonnet on full lock. Left it there over night got pi$$ed then rang for recovery the next morning.

On a side note any news on the dip stick tubes?

I had ECP on that live chat thing a while back asking the difference 2 hand brake cables, as to which i needed for my car.

the guys answer was - "one is 1622mm the other 1618mm, so one is longer".......... REALLY!!!!

i kinda knew that before i asked.

dont get me wrong, their parts list is great, and very good pricing but jeezus i was laughing pretty hard at that.

Never lending you my car lol

sounds to me the rivet came loose same happened to me thats the weakness of the box

I had those rivets bolted/welded/grinded and smoothed off when fitting the diff in my current box.  I didn't want that happening to me.

same here on my Pug 309 goodwood

I did swap engine over to a 405 Mi16v that went like a rocket. I smacked a large hole in box and oil dumped and that was it stopped there and then.

Yep big hole in the casing when I took the box out.

When I got the exchange box the specialist said it was common on the 205/309 boxes.

Bet the mi16 was a beast.

It was a beast , it rev'd to over 8,500 rpm had throttle body's in it's later life, and was one of the best chassis handling cars i have ever owned

They made them with 16v's in France as std (called Gti 16)

That's cool mate always liked the 309 shape my 205 used to have lift off over steer was fun once you got the hang of it.

Great thread derailment. Nice to see some French love. I sprinted a 205 Mi16 one time. I say sprinted, as I managed a lap and a half of the old Silverstone Stone before I did the bottom end in. Really loved the 309 Goodwoods, but a bit garish for some though.

Anyway, back to gearboxes. Great work NotSoLuckyvRS20vT, and good to see you back on form. You remind me of a pal who went through 13-odd gearboxes in his Saxo VTR by driving it like a spanner and launching it everywhere and anywhere. He trolleyed the diff in each and every one of them (Peugeot/Citroen MA boxes have a reputation for being made of chocolate). His rate of gearbox failures was directly proportional to the number of valves of the engine in the car.

Looking forward to the next installment.
