Missing Roof Aerial

Featured Replies

I've been getting poor reception on my radio for a while, and recently spotted why. It seems at some stage my radio aerial had come off! (Maybe vandals, but more probably a car-wash.)

As you can see from the attached pic, the base is still there.

I'd like to fit a new aerial, but I don't know whether I need to replace the whole lot, including the base. I've looked but I can't see how the aerial attaches into the base- does it just screw in?

If you want to just fit the Aerial then it screws into the existing base.

To replace the lot you'll need to drop the headlining.

I have an original aerial spare from my vrs.

Screw in - Just get replacement

I got a spare and a spare s2000 aeriel

Thanks all.

Following your suggestions I bought a replacement mast (see pic) but when I tried to screw it in it wouldn't grip.

It's surprisingly difficult to see inside the base, but I suspect there's a piece missing from it- perhaps it got ripped out in the car-wash, or whatever it was that broke it in the first place. Looking at other pictures, I think it's the goldy thread bit inside the base (see here).

Either that or the fitting bolts I was sent are the wrong size...but I doubt that really.

Can anyone tell me whether I need a new base, or whether that thread can just be replaced?

New base needed! if the threaded section is missing there will be no conection even if you get the aerial to hold.

If you want to just fit the Aerial then it screws into the existing base.

I did mine without removing the headlining, I just removed the big plastic trim panel across the back and was able to pull the headlining down just enough to reach in and undo the big retaining nut, I needn't have bothered though, the radio reception is still appalling!

I fitted a new polo base and aerial looks a lot betterpost-110602-13966347961247_thumb.jpg

After market HU by any chance? Invest in a signal booster.

OK. I'll have a go at replacing the base too. Thanks everyone for your advice.

From what I can see, it's not even the original base I don't think. They have a slit down the back as the whip aerial is an anti theft one with a barb on it to stop it being pinched in a rush. The slit enabled you to unscrew it then lie it flat and re tighten for car washes. Get a new whole unit mate.

I paid approx £45 from Skoda when my aerial was removed from base by some idiot!!

Easy to replace, just drop the headlining down a bit to access the base etc. 10-15minute job..

I didn't pay a penny for my aerial or base lol I think it looks better with the new polo one.
