Group Buy for Front Wishbone Defcon alternative sleeves / bushes

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Looking at interest for a group buy of  the defcon alternative version of sleeves and bushes.

Brief description on what these are and the benefits of fitting them.

The sleeved insert are really just a metal sleeve,  to insert into a post 2000 cast wishbone to allow a smaller bush to be installed.

This sleeve allows you to return a Audi  TT or similar car chassis to the handling characteristics of

original Audi TT's (cira 2000) that had a smaller bush in the front of the wishbone which gives a very direct tight feel to the front end and turn in of the car.

Unfortunately Audi did a recall on this year and earlier cars as were concerned and had complaints of drivers who were not very well equipped to loose the back end on the car.

So Audi did a wishbone design change with a lager front hole to accept a larger bush that transformed the car to dial out some under steer.

This made the car less sporty and not as tight feeling on turn in for the more sporty minded person

This  same wishbone are fitted to Golf R32 /S3 and Seat LCR's

Trying to find a original circa 2000 wishbone is like rocking horse poo, so companies like defcon / cookpot have produced this sleeve to make your post 2000 Audi Chassis become a pre 2000 one".

Some useful info here and example company defcon that list a lot of info:

http://www.thettshop...=show&site=main

I have cast wishbones from Audi TT fitted to my VRS

I think they are designed to be fitted to the Cast Wishbone that are on Audi TT/S3, Seat LCR and R32 cars but the hole is the same size a std VRS wishbone(I will confirm this)

I contacted Paul at "Cookbot automotive solutions" ref a price and group by reductions, great guy and helpful.

Website here:

http://www.cbauto-solutions.co.uk/

This is the Deal Paul can get:

They are priced at £85 posted each to forum members including pre fitted "super pro" bush.

or for group of 5 People can do them at £80 per pair

or for group of 10 People can do them at £75 per pair

This includes postage to each person.

I can also provide them with out bush, but be aware I have to use a special tool I made to fit these, so it’s unlikely guys would be able to fit the super pro bush on their own.

price for these is:

£60 posted on an individual price,
£55 for 5
£50 for 10

This includes postage to each person.

Cookbot  also have the SPF 3395k and SPF 3397k rear wishbone bushes in stock if members require other bushes too.

Would be good to test the water on interest so i can work out if this group buy will be a go..?

Start adding names please on interest

Also indicate if you want the  sleeve plus superpro bush or just the sleeve and you purchase and fit your own bush(either std Audi TT mk1 from dealer or poly bush like super pro) but you will find it a nightmare to press it in.

So I will Start

Bowders1   Sleeve + Bush x 1 (= 1 pair)

Would regular polybushes have a similar result for less outlay? As they are a lot stiffer than standard?

No mate, the feel from a normal poly and a sleeve with a smaller poly is totally different

It's good mod but if you don't like a sporty and rear end movement then these are not for you

Rear end won't move that much as longer wheelbase to the TT.

Sent from my Samsung S3

It will move more coupled with a larger rear arb

Good for people that like that :-) I have ordered a set

You need a diff next mark desperately !!!

Just a little side not here, it is possible to do these on your drive with the right tools, burn the old bush out and use a vice with 2 sockets to press the cookbot bush in, it's hard work but just give yourself time :)

So not many offers for a group buy then folks???

Will leave it a few days and just order up one for me then.. :)

The thing that sprung to mind for me is that a machine shop could make those sleeves for probably £20, I did post this earlier but I deleted it, might be worth exploring that, getting a batch made like that and flogging them at a fraction of the cost.

Probably true buddy...

Someone would still need to get one to get the inner / outer dimensions though to accept the smaller bush. Not hard though agree.

I will get one and then take measurements and see.

Hi everyone, I heard there was interest on here and thought I'd introduce myself to allow people to ask questions if you have any.

I've also recently dropped the price of the bushes and so the following now applies:

"They are priced at £75 posted each to forum members including pre fitted "super pro" bush.

or for group of 5 People can do them at £70 per pair

or for group of 10 People can do them at £65 per pair"

price for these is:

£50 posted on an individual price,
£45 for 5
£40 for 10

I understand how on the surface these may appear expensive (I thought the same to the original defcons and had my first set made) costs like paypal fees, postage, anodising and laser engraving soon mount up, so it's not too bad if you want an off the shelf method that is guaranteed to work.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul,

That is great of you to introduce yourself . Thanks

It was me that sent you the original email

I think I've talked myself out of these - base on the logic 'don't fix what isn't broken'

These defcon bushes haven't been designed with the Superpro castor correcting rear bushes in mind either

Wish i could do that.

I am kinda tweak and re tweak.........

Well I will be the guinea pig.

re tweak.........

already got enough re-tweaking to keep me entertained/brakrupt for a good while yet

Not quite sure wha t you mean here, there's no specific design requirements needed for a caster increase rear bush?  If you're after those, I also carry those in stock too

I already have these fitted

Looking through the info on modshack they don't mention the use of combining the castor correcting rear bush with the defcon inserts

Combining the two might give too much castor and invoke oversteer

Hi Paul

I think what snow_muncher means is looking at the defcon site or this one

http://www.modshack.info/defcon.htm

there are variances / alternatives to purchase like these:

DEFCON 1 : DEFCON front adapters, Pair of MK1 Powerflex Poly Bushings and New OEM MK2 rear bushes.

DEFCON 2 : DEFCON adapters , OEM MK1 front bush, OEM MK2 rear bush:  This will result in a set-up slightly stiffer than the original MK1 configuration.

DEFCON 3 : DEFCON adapters , OEM MK1 front bush, OEM MK1 rear bush. This is an exact replica of the original MK1 arms

DEFCON 4 : DEFCON adapters, OEM MK1 front bush. This set-up   Retains your existing MK2 rear bush and would be the most affordable install

snow_muncher  and myself both have full TT front end set up on our Octavia's (VW Golf chassis) which is with the cast wishbones

We also have the kit SPF 3397k (castor increase kit) fitted

This is therefore possibly adding a new dimension alternative?

So you could say:

DEFCON 5 : DEFCON front adapters, Pair of MK1 Powerflex Poly Bushings and New kit SPF 3397k (castor increase kit).

As that kit is a castor increase kit, what testing has been done with it fitted with the defcon type sleeve and superpro bush?

Would it make the car too tail happy?

As the Defcon 1 set up would be stiffer than std MK1 TT , the set up with extra camber would possibly be a step above that too making it even more extreme that the MK1 wishbone were

hope that makes sense.

I know your sleeves are a similar set up to the defcon and maybe it is not fair to expect you to have the costs and capabilities and experience of all the variances the cars would behave like.

I would be that guinea pig for a test set though........

cheers

I can't comment on how other cars drive with these, but can say I have superpro bushes and normal geometry SPF 3395 rear bushes.  With this the set up is a little more harsh, but not too much (the worst thing are poly top mounts!) but the direct feel you gain is greatly noticeable.  It's not made my car tail happy at all, although I have fitted R32 anti roll bars, so that does dial out some of the understeer.  From what I've heard from people who just fit the cookbots, they say it makes the car feel more responsive at speed and allows greater feedback of what the front wheels are doing.  My current car set up allows a predicable sideways drift that can easily be controlled with the right foot!

I don't think you'll ever get the car where it feels like you'll be losing the back end regardless of the bushes you use, but can't say for certain.

Hope that answers what you were asking, even if it's a little vague!

Thanks, Paul

Thanks Paul.

I take it you have fitted both R32 anti roll bars you have a  TT 225 that is 4x4  as i would not expect that to loose grip so easy.

The Octavia VRS is a longer car and with only 2WD so maybe this makes a difference.  Mine is fitted with R32 FARB though also.

But agree it is more predictable drift i see.

Anyway  I will purchase a set please let me know best way to order at the price of £75 posted as your site still has different price

cheers
