Saharan Sand/Dust..Take Care

Featured Replies

Just a heads up on the present Southerly Wind conditions bringing Saharan Dust/Sand

Make sure you pressure wash or use a strong current of water before washing your car as it could cause scratches

Snow Foam is ideal of course as it will lift the sand/dust particles prior to washing off

Good luck

I spent 4 hours washing the car yesterday when I came out this morning it was covered in what looked like sandy dust...that'll explain what it is...

or nip round to Chris or Alan's   Job sorted

As i read this I saw it on the news... its been confusing me all day. As I know it didnt rain last night!

Topped up the Sonax yesterday.

The uber beading has focused the sand into dots. Just waiting for an unsuspecting wipe!!!!!!

Other cars just have sand kind of all over them.

Going to try and rinse it off. Proper wash at the weekend.

It's always been a problem, especially here 'darn sarf'. Car was covered in it this morning. It's still there now but it's raining so hopefully that might clear some off. I'll maybe wash it tomorrow if I get time. Some of us have cake to buy after work tomorrow though :(

Don't forget the Sandwiches Lee?

no sandwiches, mate. Cake's for our local meets first birthday, and I said I'd buy it :(

Was so cheesed off, spent a good couple of hours Saturday washing/cleaning only to come out Sunday morning to what looked like a mud bath :(

Took it down jet wash and rinsed the whole car then home and a full wash again.

Surprising how much sand/mud gets carried over here.

The Yeti was covered in it this morning. Fortunately with the extra hour of daylight I was able to give it a thorough clean. That Sonax is good stuff - looked almost finished after just a snow foam and pressure wash off. If there's more dust it'll just have to stay on the car, as we're off to north Wales at the weekend, staying on a farm at around 200m, so I think the chances of it staying clear of mud are pretty remote!

Arrived at work to discover clean paintwork

The rain in the night and the combination of AB Hellshine Abyss & Sonax BSD has worked well...No dust or sand on the car at all

Mine was covered in it yesterday, didn't quite understand what was going on till I saw this thread.

Even though we had a fair amount of rain last night mine still looks a mess.

I have taken to keeping my little draper hose end gun filled up with pre-wash.

If i mist lightly on to the car I can get similar cling and cleaning to snowfoam, obviously not as good as the real thing, but I can run the hose reel out to the car and do a 2 minute rinse down that actually clears most gunk quite well, and if it's raining no need to concern myself with drying.

Closest I have got to a touchless wash.  That is to say, not that close, but it deals with the saharan sand nicely :)

Glad i fully detailed and Sonax'd my car yesterday..... just in time i think.

Heavy rain overnight and the car was spotless today....

But SWMBO's car which has been lacking my attention recently..... was covered in the stuff.  :@

I don't think that will happen just yet Mark...but its a small step towards it

Like wise. Spent a few hours giving the car a clean followed by a coat of Collinate 845 with AG Extra Gloss Protection on the bonnet and roof. Within in minutes, it starts to rain leaving a coat of this sand. Then to top it off a bird sh*tes on the bonnet!

My car is parked down the street as builders cutting stone for house extension . So no difference to me anyway. 1st time I have seen it since Thursday as I cycle to work . Did all 3 cars when I got home at 7 before my birthday tea !

That's dedication!
