help needed!

Featured Replies

Right, this is the second time now i've dismantled all the bits in the way to get to the thermostat housing to try and replace the thermostat...

So here's my problem, and it's stopped me twice from doing it now! What's the best tool to get the bottom bolt off the housing!?! I just can't get it!! Arrrgh! It's a 5mil allen head/10mm nut.

It's in the most awkward place!!

I use a long ball ended 5mm Allen key socket every time and it works a treat!! Or if that doesn't work then take out the alternator and get a 10mm socket on it but that's more work!

I used a 5mm Allen key on a flexi joint and long extension bar. Did take a while to get it to catch. Screwing it back in was easier.

I almost thought about taking the alternator out! Right in the way haha! I have a 5 mill ball allan key, but just wasn't working.

i can try that allan key on a flexi joint next time i get a chance to go near it haha!

Thanks for the advice guys!

When I did mine, I used a long 3/8 extension with Alan adapter on the end, I removed the elec plug from alternator and the extension bar went straight through and just got on the bolt if you get what I mean.. I just used  my right hand to guide it into the head of bolt.

Hope this made sense and helped lol

Never mind...tried uploading a pic but was too big! Basically a pipe split! One of the pipes coming off the Y piece the right hand side of thr top block!

Common problem on these unfortunately :-/
