Air con compressor clutch

Featured Replies

After my post yesterday, more reading on here i believe the sheer clutch in the compressor unit has sheered.

It doesn't look to be spinning with the engine running, and i can turn part 1 in the diagram, with out the belt moving.

Does this mean the unit has failed?

Just seems odd there was not noise to be noticed before.

Cheers

It sounds like your compressor may well have seized forcing the shear clutch to do its job.

I'm in the same boat, i was just going to look for a second hand one and fit it.  Its essential i have AC for the summer.

I was thinking it had seized, but i can still turn it by hand, do they only need to seize a little to make the clutch sheer if that makes sense?

Im thinking a second hand unit too, don't want to fit it to find it doesn't work either but the price difference is massive between recon and s/h.

Yeah the price of a new unit is silly money, i've seen second hand units go on fleabay for £40. I'll happily spend that.

Im happy to spend that, just weary of getting a not functioning part fitting it paying for gassing/ or pay for fitting to find its also goosed.

But pay your money takes your chance i guess.

Can you turn the compresser still, as i can by hand and that just seems odd if its seized?

Also should a fan come on when ac is actived as that isnt happening.
