Dashboard squeeks

Featured Replies

After I had my air con sensor replaced and the dashboard had to be unmounted, I get squeek noises sometimes, usually when I am running on bumpy roads. I found something about a component that was upgraded after year 2000, but I have been told that a piece of rubber could do the job also. The issue seems to be the dashboard plastic that is placed onto a metal bar under it, but I cannot seem to get there by unmounting the ventilation grills (or maybe my screwdriver is not long enough).

I also attached the file where it says how to do it. How did you guys managed to fit something there, if you ever had the same problem ?

There is a guide on this in the technical forum. Think it's quite far back

I got it solved, at least for the moment. I am planning now to replace my faulty o2 sensor and the motor oil.

How much would skoda charge to strip and refit dash with fresh stronger clips? If there is such an option??

I did some research for this problem and the squeeks seem to be triggered only by the faulty design of the first models of Mk1 -the faulty part is 6Y0858037 B. This was fixed in the next production models by fitting a different part where the dash sits on the metal bar. The part that was replaced with is 6Y0 858 037 C. I did not do it this way, I fitted a rubber band with a very long screw driver. It took about 30 minutes though.

So can this updated part be fitted to a mk1 fabia

Mine is a 2006 BLT Model so obv the problem wasn't even corrected in that year!!

Don't disturb the members of the Fabia National Zoo Park...they are already disturbed.  After I fixed the dashboard thing, I can hear some noises coming from my rear hatch and back seats.

Many models are fitted with a variable resistor switch that solves this problem very effectively.

Using the panel pictured below, press the large, centre button and rotate clockwise and the squeaks and rattles quickly stop being a problem.  Think VAG borrowed the idea for this intelligent solution from Austin when they were refining the mini.  :giggle:

(Disclaimer - image found on Google, I do not listen to any of the obscure local stations that broadcast on 87.5 fm)

I find the whole car to be a bit of a rattle box. No sooner do I fix one rattle that another one starts. I had a Ford previously and it was nowhere near as bad as the Fabia in that respect.
