changing glow plugs

Featured Replies

I need some advice guys how hard is it to change the glow plugs in a BLT VRS on scale of 1-5 (1 bein easiest) ive just had a code cleared sayin i have one thats abit faulty..

I've heard it's straightforward enough... but they can be prone to snapping in the head if they have been in for life  so I would soak them in some sort of penetrating oil overnight to reduce that risk.

I'd imagine there would be a guide somewhere on here on the ins and outs of doing them. Good luck!

Done a couple of sets on the PD eng and both sets came out very easily tbh :)

The thing to be careful of is putting the new ones in, as they are steel and the head is alloy so it's easy to knacker the threads in head.

also they are in a bit of a awkward position to see your putting them in straight in head.

A small mirror on a extendable rod from a tool store is handy ;)

Another thing to note is the thread on the glow plugs is tapered, so it's the thread that seals the plug into the head, so don't go mad with a big ratchet and try tightening them untill they stop, they need to be tight but don't go over the top.

you will need a deep socket to fit over them :)
