Octavia 2009 Purchase Advice

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Im new to the forum so any help is greatly appreciated.

Im thinking about purchasing a 2009 Ocatvia Elegance estate 1.9ltr with 92000 miles / automatic. It is listed with a dealer for 7000.

Full service history at dealer.

Thoughts on pricing. Looks very tidy from pictures.

Again any feedback greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I picked mine up 2 years ago with the same history and mileage. It was relative to yours a year younger, and in L&K trim with the 2.0TDI engine and manual box. It was in near mint condition considering the mileage and I paid 8k, which was comparatively cheap at the time so this doesn't look too far off the mark if it is in good condition, especially if it is the facelift model and you get a dealer warranty (I got 3 months due to the high mileage, lower mileage cars get a year).

1.9 TDi PD105 non-DPF engine is well proven. Agricultural - yes, reliable - yes.

The DSG gearbox - great when it is working, a real nightmare when its not.

There are lots of supporters of DSG on here, and rightly so, but you wouldn't catch me buying a high miler with no warranty.

Hi guys , thanks for the replies. Comes with a 3 month. I wonder if purchasing the extra 12 month warranty is worth it .. 2 hundred quid. Seems like it may be worth it.

What does the dsg drive like when it has issues? To be prefvtly honest I don't what it should feel like it.

Cheers again

I have a DSG gearbox car and when working well it should be smooth as silk, if you have a juddering take off or it feels like the clutch is not disengaging promptly when stopping there may be an issue. Mine is also a 2009 car, things I would check, the cambelt should have been changed, recommended to be done every 4 years. Check the tyres are in good shape, mine are in need of replacement now, the rears especially as I have suspension bushes to be replaced and it has worn the inside quarter of the tread a lot more then the rest of the tyre. As said, the 1.9 engine is a bit agricultural but has been proven over many thousands of units built. Just the usual checks that it has been regularly serviced.

The cam belt def hasn't been done. Dealer told me it was good for 130 k. I supposes this may not be the case. How much to do the cam belt you reckon?

Thanks again for advice ..

Its about £400 or so. The Skoda dealer I bought it from agreed to do mine when I pointed out it needed doing at 4yrs. And 4yrs is the official Skoda line as my local dealer had pleasure in reminding me at my recent service! So I would suggest insisting they do it as part of the sale.

The seller of another similar car I was looking at just prior to my purchase tried to hoodwink me that the car didn't have a belt to avoid doing the change, so I walked away.

I think I found your car on AT and if I am right, it does look tidy and is a facelift so definitely worth a look at that price.

Thats the one.

It definitely needs doing right away. I've no idea where they get 130k mile interval from.

Looking at the pictures, it seems to be an ex lease/fleet car (fleethire detail on the numberplate gives it away). Without wanting to start an argument about the merits or not of buying an ex lease car, you should pay particular attention to it's past history and it's current condition.

Make sure the gearbox oil was changed at 40 and 80k. My friend has a dsg with 120k on it and it's totally fine
