VAG-COM - Intermittent Throttle Valve Pressure Drop????

Featured Replies

Hi Guys.

Took the VRS into the dealer today as then check engine light cam on last Friday. They put it on the diagnostics, which reported intermittent throttle valve pressure drop.

The mechanic mentioned that this is usally something to do with turbo hose leakage, but stated that the hose clips were fine and there didn't appear to be any problems upon inspection of the hose.

They cancelled the check engine light, test drove and could not get the CEL to activate so advised me to carry on using the car as normal and monitor whether the CEL came on again or not.

I would like to perhaps get to the bottom of the problem and so was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions as to what I could check. I must add that the Skoda dealrer were brilliant (Autosales - Cannock) and didn't even charge me a penny so thumbs up to them!!

To perhaps help with a dianosis, the car can be very lumpy when cold, and misses quite a lot - perhaps for the first 2 minutes - only at low revs, and only 30% of start ups.

When driving, the car can be a bit jerky, as if it comes on boost for a couple of seconds, then loses all power.

Not the best description, but could help.

Thanks with any replies chaps.

Hi Carl,

This sounds a lot like fault code 17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve. Try doing a search for this and you'll find lots of info. The symtoms are usually jerky acceleration and intermittent loss of some or all turbo boost, although I've never had it turn on the CEL. It can be caused by a number of things, such as:

- Leaking hoses, particularly between the turbo and intercooler.

- Faulty D.V. (try pulling the small hose off the top, attach a bit of rubber tube, and suck - if you can draw air, then it's probably faulty).

- Faulty throttle valve, cleaning might help.

- Faulty MAF. Short of replacing it, you could try cleaning it (at your own risk!). I would suggest using Isopropyl Alcohol, and letting the MAF dry throughly before putting it back in. Doing this fixed things for me

Hope that helps! I gather this can be a tricky problem to pin down.
