Head light query

Featured Replies

Hi all just wondered if any one could clear this up for me I was playing around with the headlights this afternoon and noticed that there is a small looking bulbs that is fitted just above the main projector headlight in each headlight I assumed these where parking bulbs similar to the standard 501's on most cars however they don't seem to light up on any setting so what are these bulbs for.

I have the face lift model with daytime running LED if this matters

They do not work on any FL vRS, they are the side light bulb for the other models, but with DRLs they become obsolete so are not used.

Never!!! what's the point in even fitting them?

Because without the bulb you'd just have an empty hole, which I'm guessing would look worse.

Saves having to tool up a blanking plug, a 5W bulb is already available and cheaper.

because the same headlight is also used on non-vRS octavias too.  in those models, they actually use those small bulbs as sidelights.

VAG ain't gonna make a seperate line of headlights just for the vRS!!

I gathered that but surely it would of made more sense to have wired them up to the DRL's so they come on when the parking lights are engaged just my opinion, it's strange because on a second look there wired going to it so I'm assuming it's not connected to the loom.

An uneccessary load on the battery, if the DRL's are illuminated what's the point in powering up two 5W bulbs too.

Parking lights are to be used when the engine is off so the lower the draw the better.

Aesthetics will play a part too. Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money on the design of vehicle lighting and their family design cues. The 5W might detract from the visually bold LED strips? Who knows.
