Getting It Up!

Featured Replies

How do I jack up and support my 2004 Mk 1 Fab to safely work on underneath? All the books say only use the jacking points under the sill and then support with axle stands. But each jacking point does not seem long enough for a jack and a stand. Thanks.

Front - jack under the chassis rails and put axle stand under same. I use a piece of wood on the trolley jack saddle to protect the rail/plastic cover.

Rear - I jack and support on rear beam.

Officially you're not supposed to use the rear beam but I've never had a problem doing it on any car I've had. I notice tyre fitting centres use the rear beam as well.

The thread title had me intrigued by the way :giggle:

Technically isn't the issue more keeping it up? The jack does the getting it up, the stands keep it up :P

Don't jack up in the centre of the rear beam, only at each side, otherwise you may bend the beam.

DB.

Anyone got any pictures of this? Would help me!

I would not recommend searching Google for images of "getting it up" by the way. :)

I use a hockey puck with a groove cut in it as a jack pad.

Anyone got any pictures of this? Would help me!

Avalon is right! "Keeping It Up" would be more accurate - in  more ways than one.

Thank you to those that replied for the advice.
