Reversing out of our garage is risky for pedestrians following the council's re-allignment of the pavement. (SWMBO doesn't like reversing into the garage).

Anyone with experience of these?

Have'nt tried them but like the idea, where I leave people like to walk across the back of cars as soon as you engege reverse. How much are they and where do you get them.

If you reverse into something will they go " Ouch "

Better invest in some parking sensors then in this toy.

I considered the parking sensors, but thought I might give the bulb a try first...

Found a non-LED bulb which appears to be suitable for the Octy, so I needn't worry about CAN-BUS errors which the LED bulb may cause.. Link:

Might give it a go - not too expensive...

These have been around, albeit with standard bulbs, for years. OK to begin with maybe, but a bit gimmicky IMHO. I couldn't live with it for long

How noisy is the beep? Wouldn't want to be your neighbor hearing your beeps every morning  :sun:

Ten four big buddy ..we got ourselves a CONVOY !! (sorry couldn't resist) ..I drive artics pal.no one pays any attention whatsoever to them full stop.

TBH it will do your head in,wont be loud because its in a sealed cluster ,and why would you ? lol, also against the law if it is (somehow is) loud between 1130 at zee night and 7 in zee morgan

Tell the artic delivery driver visiting lidl outside my house at 0530hrs, Beep, Bl..dy beep, drives me mad, especially that time of the day!

Think it will annoy and do nothing to stop pedestrians walking across the back of your car.

complain to the store manager pal.

Im a RTITB HGV driving assessor, their naughty boys and obviously that's why its against the law cause its noise pollution and wakes people up,they have too turn off the trailer fridge in built up areas too.Amateurs only need to flick a switch.

95dB? Ye Gods, how have they managed that? And where does the output actually come from? The actual bulb itself?!

Do they really mean 95dB though? That's bloody loud for a reversing warning....

These are listed as 20W, rather than the car's original 21W. Would that be enough to trigger the bulb failure light?

They are also listed as a 95dB sound output. I wouldn't want a car with these fitted reversing out of a drive early in the morning near me -- also, I thought there was some law to say that only vehicles over 3.5 tonnes weight could be fitted with audible reversing warnings?

Mike

20W would account for the fact that the bulb's alarm worked fine when the ignition was turned on, but proceeded to make a noise like a scalded cat when the engine was running.

AFAIK the law permits any vehicle to have a audible alarm for reversing, but they are a legal requirement for those >3.5t.

Anyway - bulb back in the post and a refund headed my way.

TBH honest it wasn't that obtrusive a noise either inside or out, but was still loud enough to draw the attention of those in the immediate vicinity whilst not pi$$ing off the neighbours.

Will try a 21W next time...

That's it.

The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (extract)

(3) No person shall sound, or cause or permit to be sounded, on a road any reversing alarm fitted to a vehicle—

a. unless the vehicle is a goods vehicle which has a maximum gross weight not less than 2000 kg, a bus, engineering plant, or a works truck; or

b. if the sound of the alarm is likely to be confused with a sound emitted in the operation of a pedestrian crossing established, or having effect as if established, under Part III of the 1984 Act.

These (similar) were fitted when I bought SWMBO's latest motor, they soon came out!
