Hi,

On my drive to work today my car didn't feel right when idling, suddenly my radio turned off and i lost all power steering. I pulled over restarted the car and the fault went away apart from the dash lights seeming to pulse.

I have recently replaced the alternator.

I tested the voltages on the battery:

non running: 12.5v

engine running: 14ish v

engine on everything on (headlights, AC, steering wheel full lock) 10-11v

Can anyone help me with this ?

did you check/ replace the alternator load sensor wire?

Looks like the battery isn't charging correctly due to the above post.  If the battery light isn't illuminating, it's a good chance that the load wire is broken.

my post didn't cause the problem :(

Oh but it did, feels so good to be so bad  :notme:

i dont suppose anyone has a picture of the load wire so i can try to find it and check it ?

i tested continuity from the terminals on the alternator to the battery and they read about 5-8ohms

my post didn't cause the problem :(

Oops! :)

The load wire is the blue one from the small plug on the alternator and usually breaks close to the 2 pin plug on the front of the gear box.  There should be plenty of information on the forum about it.

ok thanks il try to find it

does your battery light come on when you start the car?

mine had this exact problem - new alternator (Previous owner) new battery (previous owner) sold as non runner due to battery going flat when not thrashed, no fault codes, and battery still going flat!
Guy gave up hope with the car and sold it to me (after I read all the posts on the forum and checked the cable (blue one near the gearbox) and it was broken on  both sides of the connector!! (both wires))
Nice n easy fix and i've put about 600 miles on the car in a month - Thank you Briskoda for all the technical help (and stopping the rear door leaks!)
