continuity question

Featured Replies

hi guys

just decided to play once more with my car and found some interesting answers that i didnt expect

tested blue/brown wire from fan  relay switch to brown/ blue behind the a/c switch inside car no continuity

then tested green/brown wire from fan relay switch to green/ brown wire behind the a/c switch inside car no continuity

Then tested green/brown wire from fan relay switch with the blue /brown wire behind the a/c switch inside the car and get continuity

Then tested the blue/brown wire from the fan relay switch withe the green/brown wire behind the a/c switch in side the car and get continuity

What does this mean?

I expected continuity from the same coloured wires only, does this mean a crossed wire

Sounds suspiciously like someone had a moment's inattention when making your car's loom. Can't find a wiring diagram for that stuff though, to be sure.

do you think the mix up means that they put the wrong wire in the wrong connection?

as my a/c fan doesnt work nor my rad fan

i have checked and changed everything to the fan still no joy

I guess it's possible. You'd think there'd be some sort of test rig they'd plug looms into to check the connectivity though, before they got near the car?

Edit: Can have a look on our car tomorrow evening if you like, see if I get the same, or different results. With luck Mr Baldwin will be along to help before then.  Does your radiator have one fan, or two?

Sure. Is it easy to get to the wiring behind the aircon switch?

Ours has two fans, the smaller of which always comes on with the a/c I think. Not sure if that'll make for any relevant wiring differences. Probably only between fans and fan control unit.

You have to take out revelant screw underneath the a/c unit then carefully push one side in and twist this should give a partial view of leads it is awkward

the other way is to take out all screws and stereo around a/c to get to it a bit of a pain

Afraid I didn't get near to looking at this today.

Thinking about it, if a green/brown wire seems to 'turn into' a blue/brown wire, it's not a case of one or other of them being in the wrong spot in a connector, it means there must be a (mis-)connection somewhere along the way. I seem to remember previous mention of a connection block somewhere in the scuttle/plenum under the windscreen wipers.  Logically, this must be where the error is, if we are correct in assuming that the continuity between different coloured wires is an error, I think?

I checked connection block under steering same coloured wires but no link to them from either a/c switches or fan relay switch?

I seem to be finding more loose ends as i go along

thanks for the tip above will try to find out how to undo the windscreen wipers and check for a connection block

finding one would make sense and my life a lot easier as all i see is spaghetti junction under steering wheel
