Water pump fail?

Featured Replies

Guys, my temp gauge goes all the way to the hot side if I drive it in till I idle then temp drops back to normal?? It was ok into I put my foot down and took it to about 7000rpm, it's had a new thermostat and coolant sensors, it's at 113k

Run your engine from cold with the expansion coolant cap off and when the car hits 90c you should see the return coolant coming back into the top of the expansion tank, if not then it is more than likely a failed pump.

I believe that is the best way of checking.

right,is a good sign for checking...and to double check feel the engine block if is hot and the radiator is cold, you have a fuel pump failure

please read one more time before argue

You might want to check none of the hoses are collapsing when the thermostat opens restricting tne flow of coolant.

I'm looking at my header tank, and there don't seem to be any coolant coming back in, is this a symptom of a water pump fail?

I dont think hes arguing?

That sounds like a water pump fail to me. Chances are the plastic impeller is come unstuck from the shaft so on idle it may well be less stress and still turning pump but under load is slipping and your temp is rising.

yes,is classic wpump fail

+1

Raise the rpm to 2500 and you should get a steady steam of coolant returning to the reservoir via the pipe that connects at the side. You don't need to wait for the engine to heat up as coolant is always pumped through the engine.

Hi, just let you know I took the water pump off the find the Impeller was spinning on the shaft.. Also the impeller broke off in half when I have it a pull... I'm glad it was this because it was a pain to get to it with all the cam belt etc

Thanks all!
