Minor dilemma/ indecision

Featured Replies

Its probably a passing phase (I hope it's a passing phase) but in the last year I've only covered 4,000 miles so I don't/ won't see the benefit of owning a diesel.

I love my car and enjoy driving it, but I'm thinking that a petrol would better suit my needs.

I don't know what to do at the moment :(

Think of all the mods you'd have to make to get it nice like your Fabia! :o

Also you don't have a DPF, so no worries. :)

That's true, I have put a lot into this car so any other car would need a fair bit of customisation :)

I agree with the post above, as you don't have a DPF I wouldn't worry about having the diesel.  I didn't do many miles when I had the 1.9 TDI PD150 in a Seat Toledo but I liked the engine for the lazy power, just a dab of the throttle and turbo spun up and catapulted it along plus it was fuel efficient, low tax and never had any issues with it.

I've just gone from diesel to petrol but that was the 2.0 TDI PD170 engine in the Octavia VRS which unfortunately does have a DPF and although I was careful not to use it for short journeys, the DPF was still giving me grief so I had enough and went for a petrol.  If I had the older 1.9 engine though I'd probably not even had to consider getting the rid of the car.

Did any of the 1.9pd engines have a dpf? Did they in 2006?

A little off topic, just curious sorry haha.

As far as I'm aware, none of the Skoda 1.9 TDI engines sold in the UK even up to the very last ones in 2010 were fitted with DPF's.  Someone did point me to a list of SKU's (not on this forum) that showed two 1.9 TDI's did have a DPF but I assume that was for another country if they did exist.

My uncles Touran 1.9 tdi has a dpf

I was driving into work this morning and I had a flash of inspiration.

You don't need to sell your car and buy a petrol.

You just need the running gear from this. ;)

Hmm that is indeed a flash of inspiration.

Very tempted :)

How do the engine mounts etc line up on the Ibiza Richard?

How do the engine mounts etc line up on the Ibiza Richard?

At one end they line up with the engine and at the other end they line up with the chassis.

Seems to work well! :)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seems like a bolt on job, pretty much.

From what I hear it's the electrics/dash that's a bit tricky.

Your not the only one who's tempted to sell....

Yep I've heard the electrical side is where it get's interesting

I think we are all aware of a lovely "one of a kind" 1.4 16V Mk1 Fabia, in an outstanding Fantasy Green with the Luxurious Mystic Beige interior (assembly required) which can be yours for a one off price of £9,999.99

:D :D

On a more serious note, when I went to buy my first car I was looking at a Diesel as I was covering alot of distance on a daily basis, but i realised long term (i was going to a training centre on a daily basis for work, which was miles away, but would finish within a year) that It wouldnt work out so i went with petrol.

Its a shame as you have put so much work into your car and it look amazing. But i guess you could always try buying a petrol Mk1 Fabia (unless you want a change) and swap things over?

If you did go down the 1.8T route, and needed some help with the electrics, give me a shout :)

You'll regret it getting shut.

Mines going to a new loving home shortly, and I'm already missing it before it's even gone! :(.... :'(

I do have first dibs on it when and if  he comes to sell it sometime in the future however.

I thought this was going to be a conversation  about my 2nd favorite car..

thanks Taylor. The diesel has served its purpose well. I knocked up 50k within 2 and a half years. I've got all manner of shiny bits including a new turbo to go on this car so it makes sense to keep it. Yep getting a petrol Fabia would make a better starting point :)

Well how about a Fantasy Green 1.4 Fabia except the 1.8t fitted to that? ;)

It depends what you want / enjoy from a car. I've just bought another MK1 Octavia VRS as I missed my old one so much and I have no need for a diesel car. I personally find that a diesel engine suits my works transit van but when I'm in a car I like to have many revs to use. One of the main reasons why I've never really enjoyed the Fabia.

Do you have any idea what sort of petrol car you might like? Have a drive of one and see if you like it. You never know, it may confirm you're happy with what you've already got.

Thanks Haydn, I've had a go at driving an octavia Vrs and the engine is really sweet, but I don't need a car any bigger than a Fabia.

Not sure of any other cars at the moment but I'd like a turbo'd petrol, similar size to the Fabia.
