Rubber Floor Mats

Featured Replies

Just wondered what you guys use to clean your Rubber floor mats,

I normally jet wash and then let them dry, just not sure what dressing to put on them to make them a little more "new"

I've been thinking almost exact the same.

Now I've got the interior looking good, I just can't get the rubber mats looking clean. I've jet washed, scrubbed, shampooed, etc. and they look OK, but not really clean.

Any thoughts?

I have found AG Rubber and Vinyl Care to be very good at doing just that.

Regards

Mike.

Careful you don't spray-on 'Back to Black' as that will make them extremely slippery.. I found-out the hard way..LOL

Thanks, I have a small sample bottle of that, will give it a go.

Just tried, does not give the shine that I'm looking for, any other suggestions.

Did they come up clean & well with the AG stuff just not with the finish you wanted?

303 Aerospace Protectant would be my recommendation. Gives UV protection to rubber, great for seals, door rubbers, under bonnet etc too.

Leaves a matt finish and won't make them slippy. Will also return colour to them, if they've gone a bit grey. Although depending on the state you're starting with, I might begin with Meg's #39 Vinyl Cleaner and give them a decent scrub with a small brush, then another coat of #39 with an old microfibre

Leave them a day, see how their condition is when dry, then if you're happy with the improvement in condition and colour, apply 303 for the protection layer.

Not like I've done this before with my winter rubber mat set or anything ;)

There are clean but still a dull finish, wanted a little "shine"

Will have a go a Wardy's suggestion.

Thanks for the replays so far.

If you were nearer Mike, we could have tested a section to see how they came up.

303 and the Vinyl Cleaner certainly does go a long way though - I've had the same bottles for some years now!

That would have been interesting `Wardy`...but as you say, too far really.

I've just put my winter set through the washing machine after their season has ended, so they now need treating and protecting up.

So could do a before and after and post the results up - thinking about it :)

You put rubber car mats in a washing machine?

Yep - gets them nice and clean :)

That seems a little extreme Wardy!

Tried a different approach, gave them a very light spray with Meg's tyre shine and used a paint brush to spread evenly. Left in the sun to dry and they have come up very well. And the surface isn't slippery.

Sounds like a good approach

I have had some 303 kicking about for years, seems to last forever.

Haha, not really - nothing that would be affected during washing, and easier/quicker/better result than pressure washing.
