Samsung Galaxy S5

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone here has got a Galaxy S5 and if so has it got RSAP, as a number of phone stores are giving different answers, I currently have a Galaxy S3 installed on my columbus, with no problems, but don't want to change phones, only to find problems.

hope someone can help.

My Note 3 does. I don't see Samsung dropping it.

My TomTom Go 600 won't talk to my S3 19305T which I had to buy to replace my dead 19300 which did connect.......not happy!

Mods, if I'm in the wrong area sorry, couldn't find it.

Have you tried the bluetooth phonebook app Ryeman?

I have a galaxy S5 and it doesn't have RSAP, looks like it uses HFP now, great piece of kit irregardless

The functionality was removed in an earlier android bluetooth version, there was a workaround that I used on an S2

but not tried that on the S5 as I didn't want to take root.

The S5 syncs with my new Columbus with no problems, you just lose out on text messages

I had an S4 previously and that sync'd with the old columbus model with no problems either.

Hi erniem the S5 does have RSAP as I can get it too work fine

69 next month but seem to muddle through with most problems (except Windows 8 grrrr).

Yes, I loaded that app.....still no go with TomTom........no problems with Bolero.....very odd.

So I've paid for 'traffic' but you only get what you paid for if the tech you update to is compatible (seems like 'cost transferring' to me) with problems being the owner's......I wish I'd kept my old, smaller, wi-fi 2050 which gave me warnings.

The bottom line is if your in the market for a new phone you might not get from TomTom what you paid for.

This is an issue for TomTom AFAIC.

There you go talking dirty......if only I knew what you were talking about.

Didn't realise they had brought Rsap back in, great news as it was ditched in 4.0

To try and answer Ryeman

These are all ways of getting bluetooth connectivity between Phone and car (protocols)

HFP = Hands Free Protocol, Allows calls to be recieved and listened to

PBAB = Phone Book Access Protocol, Allows the phone numbers to be read from your phone.

RSAP = Remote Sim Access Profile, allows the SIM card to be read and intercepted, so that items like text messages can also be  recieved

I had an 09 Superb which had the previous model Columbus unit in it that supported RSAP with a Samsung Galaxy S2,

I now have the new model Octavia which has the latest model Columbus, and now have a Samsung Galaxy S5

The main difference was being able to read your text messages in the centre console display, which I miss

Hope that helps

Thanks erniem,

I simply have no understanding of 'protocols' (I shouldn't have given you that idea,my fault). My S3 GT-19305T won't do what my old S3 GT-19300 did.

I'm still a tech muppet unfortunately.

Right I'm a noob to this so please bear with me...

I have the Columbus and use a Parrot for hands free connectivity - was in the car when purchased. This has worked OK with my iPhone 4s. However I am about to get a Samsung Galaxy S5 - will this connect directly to my Columbus???

Also can anybody tell me where the "unit" is underneath the drivers seat. I have had a look and can't see anything. If it's there it's hidden behind framework and plastic.

Cheers

It's normally a black plastic or metal box hidden by the carpet or in a polystyrene holder. Post a pic if you need more help

For what it's worth I've just updated my Galaxy S4 to Lollipop (Android 5.0.1) and after re-pairing it to the Bluetooth in the car it now loads the phonebook. I always got the 'failed' message before when running 4.4.2.
