Replacing turbo unit on a 2.0 TDI - how hard is it?

Featured Replies

My Octavia as gone into limp mode a few times in the last few months and it is reporting a P0234 error code as shown below:

From doing some research it looks like a knackered turbo unit. I also get quite a whistle going as well!

I would like to get a recon unit with a warranty and fit it myself. Never done one before but I am pretty competent with cars.

So how long would it take on average to replace it and are there any pitfalls I need to know about?

Hi,

Try this thread. There are a few links in the first post to how to replace a turbo.

I have had the same code and I am not looking forward to the inevitable. As a last resort I have just used a product called Revive turbo cleaner. Basically spray some fluid into the air intake and the drive the car like you borrowed off your brother who stole it.

I bought it here.

I can't say it's a complete cured yet but it certainly feels like it helped.

Many thanks for the info. I will take a look at report back once I have attempted it :-)

Cleaned the air mass sensor and it feels a bit more responsive and I don't get any juddering under acceleration (so far anyway).

The next step is to try the turbo revive product to see if this can help further.
