13 pin trailer sockets in UK

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but as it is not car specific, I thought it might be.

I'm looking at buying a trailer wiring kit and controller from Skodateile.

Ales has confirmed price (€118 delivered) and that it is 13 pin.

My questions is simply, is 13 pin a European standard or is the UK configuration different?

I believe that it is standard across Europe, but wanted to check before ordering it.

Europe standard.

All new caravans have the 13 pin fitted as standard.

However, if you are going to tow an older van/trailer fitted with the 12N/12S socket/s, you will need an adapter lead.

Thanks. I thought so.

Was actually planning on using it for a bike rack and / or a small trailer as the reversing lights aren't available with a 7 pin configuration.

Itis unlikely that I'll be towing a caravan anytime soon.

They must be standard, as we have to use a tester on them to electrically check them on a MOT test.

Does that include the 7 pin ones too or are the check only on 13pin type?

Thanks. I thought so.

In the olden days you had single electrics or twin electrics. Twin electrics had two plugs and the second covered things like reversing lights, power for caravan fridge etc. Now they wire it all into one plug/socket.

Thanks. I knew that and was wanting to check that a 13 pin setup from Czechoslovakia would be OK with UK bought products.

The set-up will be the same, as it is a European standard.

Thanks everyone.

My question has been convincingly answered.
